React Resume
Helping users build & host professional resume websites
About the product
React Resume is my first public product, and is a platform for helping users build and host their own personal resume website.
My goal was to make it as simple as possible, where users simply:
- Sign up with OAuth (Github, Google, Facebook or LinkedIn)
- Fill out their information in the live template editor
- Choose their unique link ("your-name".reactresume.com)
- View their site (hosted automatically at the chosen link)
A little background
Years ago, when I was trying to start my career in software development, I had a few small side projects, but realized I didn't really have a method to show them off to potential employers. That, and I found it painful to continually return to and update whatever was my last iteration of my standard document resume. I decided then that I'd rather be able to version control my resume, add new details/projects easily and provide a link to employers that would always resolve the most recent version. This was originally done with LaTex, but that was a bit of a pain as well.
I then figured, what better way to showcase my web development skills, than to display them directly as my resume? Everything that I'd like to show in a boring document could be shown better on a webpage, and proceeded to build the first version of my personal resume site. In doing so, I realized that it'd be a very small effort to turn it into a template for others to use and do the same.
Then to now
Over the years, the template has continued to be used by many but the 2 biggest questions I've been asked, is
- How do I fill it out and host it?
- What is a GitHub? How do I use this if I'm not a coder?
I've decided it's time to answer both with a single offering, a platform that anyone can use. Simply sign in, fill it out, and hit publish!
About
The initial version exists as an open source template of my own personal resume website. To make it accessible to non-developers, I've transformed it into a no-code platform for easily building & hosting your own.
