Self-hosted AI workstation for serious readers
I kept procrastinating on books I actually wanted to read. Not from laziness. From friction. Working long hours, every time I sat down with a book I'd hit the same wall — an unknown term, a concept with gaps underneath it, questions building up with nowhere to go. So I'd stop. Close the book. Tell myself I'd come back when I had more energy.I never came back. The highlighting tools didn't help. Readwise saved my highlights but couldn't answer my questions. Notion held my notes but couldn't connect them. ChatGPT answered questions but had no idea what I'd actually read — and I couldn't verify if it was making things up.None of them removed the friction that made me stop reading in the first place.
So I built ReadGraph. It's a self-hosted AI workstation that turns your books, documents, and the web into a knowledge base you can question, test, and build on. When you hit an unknown term — ask the AI mentor. It searches your notes, your knowledge base, and the web before answering, then cites every source. When you sense a gap in your understanding — run gap analysis. It shows exactly what's missing and what to read next. When you're worried about forgetting — weekly spaced repetition assessments built from your own reading notes test you before the knowledge fades. Everything runs on your machine. PostgreSQL database. No cloud. No subscription. No service shutdown that takes your reading history with it. Pocket had 17 million users. It shut down in July 2025. I wanted something that couldn't do that. It took 78 releases to get to v7.8.0. The changelog is public — every bug I introduced, every decision I reversed, every assumption I got wrong is in there. I kept it because the history is proof that the product is real.

“I’ll come back to it later” loop is real.
I like the idea of removing friction instead of just adding more tools around reading. The gap analysis + citations combo sounds especially useful.
Thank you for giving your time from your busy schedule Dan and sorry for late reply as we still working on the many other things to make this tool more useful. As we have made some more changes so that it can be useful for both i.e. General users as well as aspiring founders as my motive is only one to get the better things sums including your day to day things so that system can be more better and we can have more better understanding and focus more on the things to make our life at ease with the help of knowledge we gather across all the internet and from our experiences.
