Apple Watch app to adjust rest periods based on heart rate

August 19, 2020 Recovery Timer is live on the Apple App Store

Hooray! I was able to get the app onto the Store and verified. The funniest part was the initial denial - I needed to give a shout out to the Activity App in my description since Recovery Timer syncs to it. Weird - I would have thought the metadata they show would already have done that.

It's now available at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1528108364

August 9, 2020 Company website up and verified

I had to jump through some hoops to get Apple to change my Developer Account from personal (my name) to company name (vGenerator LLC). I had to submit some forms and data, and then make sure there was a live website with a help form and help email address.

That ended up being not too difficult thanks to ImprovMX 👏 and using a Jekyll website deployed on Netlify 👏 .

So the great news is that vGenerator.com is now up and running.

August 1, 2020 Back at it

Things settled down a little at home, and I did hear back from Apple Support. They had a few suggestions so I took them into account. In the meantime there's been an update to XCode and WatchOS so something seems to have worked. The app is correctly notifying me without going to sleep.

March 17, 2020 COVID crashes everything

Well I can't work out anymore, and that made the activity around Recovery Timer stop as well. I'm still waiting on a response from Apple Support anyway and it seems like it's a dealbreaker if it can't be resolved anyway. Will have to revisit once things get better.

March 12, 2020 Stuck on a bug

I slowly made my way through designing the app, getting the code done (using Swift and SwiftUI so that's cool to learn), but got stuck on a weird bug. It seems like there is a WatchOS bug on the Series 5 Apple Watch where the screen sleeping cause my app to stop incrementing the timer... which stops the notifications for rest and start set. I contacted Apple Support and waited on a response.

January 1, 2020 Started working on Recovery Timer

After thinking about the idea for six months I thought it was time to go learn some WatchOS and code something for my new Apple Watch. It's the start of the new year so I decided to make it my first quarter goal to get something out the door and see if others wanted to see a similar product as well.

About

I worked with a personal trainer and learned that using your heart rate to determine time between sets is better than just waiting 3 minutes for HIIT, fartlek, or weight training. No Apple Watch app does this so...
