May 26, 2023 10 Beta Users

Today I launched the closed beta, I managed to gather 10 users that showed some interest in testing the tool.

I got 10 Beta Users by reaching out to a list of 88 leads (11%), not sure how solid this number is, but one thing is sure is that I need to find more leads and reach out to them.

For now, it's time to monitor the usage and gather feedback.

    That's awesome! Congrats!

Curious to know, how did you get the leads in the first place?

Direct outreach. I didn't try to make it complicated. I know exactly who are the people I'm targetting, I had around 100 bookmarked tweets (check this post to know more about these bookmarks https://www.indiehackers.com/product/recto/the-way-to-find-an-idea-is-to-not-look-for-it--NUJks8irgRWWyrcTvVB)

I wrote a script that uses twitter API to pull these twitter users, it also constructs a unique message for each user, and DMs them.

I have multiple alternatives for any sentense in order to pick random ones and have unique message for each DM. I used this format:

      • Greeting
      • intro
      • Recto intro
      • Invite for the close beta program
      • Closing sentense
      • Thanks in advance

For the greeting and the intro, I did some manual work of guessing their personal name from their twitter display name or just simply say "Hey there" in case it's not obvious.

I used ChatGPT to extract the main topic of their tweet. the beginning of the message looked like this:

      Hey { name },

      I noticed your tweet about { topic } { tweet.url }. I didn't get to see the full content, but I imagine it's interesting.

For the invite to the close beta program, I tried to make them feel important without being too pushy.

We're about to roll out a closed beta for @Recto_io next week and thought to extend this opportunity to a few remarkable Twitter content creators like you.

      I hope this is helpful.

Thanks so much for the detailed reply! Very impressive how you managed to integrate chatgpt in it as well and pulled it off!

I definitely need to change my strategy 😅

January 20, 2023 The way to find an idea, is to not look for it.

I always wanted to grow my Twitter audience and noticed a pattern in many tweets: content creators would offer valuable resources (PDFs, links, courses, etc.) and ask their audience to retweet, like, and follow in exchange for a DM containing the content. But there was a problem - manual checking of engagement was tedious, and Twitter's DM limit prevented them from reaching everyone.

This is a real example:

The world is changing in front of us.

You'll be left behind if you don’t keep up with the AI.
So I put together the best 33 AI tools of 2023 for business and productivity

Just:
• Like
• Retweet
• Reply ‘🤖’

I’ll DM (36hrs only, must be following)

And I have bookmarked many more similar tweets.

Not only did this mean that not all the audience got access to the resource, but after a posting similar posts for a few times, content creators would lose their audience's trust. Seeing a huge opportunity in this space, I decided to create Recto, a platform that makes the process of sharing exclusive content in exchange for engagement frictionless.

The value proposition is that Recto simplifies content sharing for creators by eliminating the need to send DMs or request engagement in their tweets. Users can immediately access exclusive content after engaging with the post. This ensures a positive reputation for creators and increases engagement rates, as followers are assured of receiving the content through a Recto link.

To get the initial users interested in Recto, I had to step out of my comfort zone and reach out to people. As of now, I'm focused on getting more people to sign up for the waitlist, so when launching, I have a user base interested in using the product.

Going forward, my plan is to continue refining Recto based on user feedback and market needs. I'm excited about the possibilities and look forward to helping content creators grow their Twitter audiences.
