Building the perfect landing page

Apparently it's been a while since I'd brushed up on designing a marketing site.

Most of my time is spent building web apps in React. Dashboards are fairly boring and straightforward. But when I went to build my marketing site, I was a bit at a loss for where to start.

I'd contemplated using Wordpress and purchasing a theme. Or, perhaps, just breaking out the ol' HTML and CSS and writing something from scratch. However, I wanted a combination of control, flexibility and the scalability that a good content system provides.

After doing some research, I decided to use Astro (https://astro.build) in combination with Tailwind, neither of which I'd used before.

I referenced the following sites for design inspiration:
https://www.worksome.com/
https://ghost.org/
https://www.copilot.com/
https://pipe.com/
https://www.decodable.co/
https://methodfi.com/

After designing the site in Figma, it took about ~10 hours to code-up the final product: https://redshyft.io

I'm incredibly happy with the final result, something I've never said about any other marketing site I've built previously.

Looks good but what is your hourly rate?

How fast could you have done it if you bought say a theme from https://lexingtonthemes.com/?

I wasn’t aware of these and honestly likely would have purchased one of these themes if I’d known. That being said, I learned how to use Astro and Tailwind, so it was still worth it.

        Nice.

I never understood learning for learnings sake in business context. There are 101 things you could be doing that are more interesting/better use of your time.

This looks like a great work and I see the website fully working and being very neat and clean. Nice!

Have you tried experimenting with the fonts on the website to give it a final touch and make it just fine? Typography does add a lot of points to the design of a website and it help people absorb information easier. But I'm pretty sure you know that :)

I’m awful with fonts. I use basic ones because it’s safe 😅 The site is using Inter and Roboto. Any suggestions?

If you want to check whether fonts are compatible there are free online platforms for that, so such type of tools do help play it safe also :)

Maybe check something Figtree, Poppins or Manrope? They are open source, so should be no problem to implement.

Of course, it is best to choose the font based on the brand image you want people to have. What vibe you would want to give with your website?

Thank you! Tailwind makes this really easy to get right.
