People search "kitchen remodel cost sacramento," city level. My pages answered at ZIP level, and my city pages were link lists with no prices on them. Ranking for queries nobody types. Started rebuilding city pages around actual cost tables and launched a 1,000-page city-by-project pilot instead of another fleet.
Google Search Console baseline: 283,000 URLs submitted. Indexed: zero. Clicks in 90 days: 2. Not 2,000. Two. Programmatic SEO from a cold start is a wall, and I had just measured it.

26,000+ ZIP codes, 10 projects, ~283,000 addressable pages. Submitted everything to Google and felt unstoppable for about a day.

Static builds would take 3+ hours for national scale. Rebuilt instead around Cloudflare Workers and D1: pages render at the edge from SQLite, builds take 7 seconds no matter how many states are loaded. Adding a state is now a data job, not a code change.

Spent two weeks confirming the core bet: Zillow publishes home values per ZIP, the BLS publishes construction wages per metro, Cost vs. Value publishes what projects return at resale. All public. Nobody glues them together. That glue is the whole product.

I had a tiny cost calculator covering Illinois ZIP codes, built mostly to teach myself Astro. Then I watched a friend in Phoenix get quoted double what a "national average" site promised. Same project, same square footage. The averages are the problem. Decided to take the thing national: every US ZIP, real local data.
