September 2020 1000 Signups

A new milestone accomplished! From the 1000 signups around 100 were paying customers, which is pretty good.

The traction I got from StackCommers was huge. I was not prepared for it. Not at all. A lot of customer support was needed and some blamed me for ripping them off. As a solo founder, this is not easy to digest. At that point, I was not even sure if I want to continue the journey. Resoume is a side-project after all and my fulltime job is paying me well.

But as you can see I stuck with Resoume. I changed my perspective. Every negative feedback I got was great because it actually helped me to improve the product for the next user.

I think out of 10 feedbacks I got, 7 were negative, 1 neutral, and 2 positive. Most people don't bother to write the support if the product is just ok. But they will if something is not working as expected. And if that is the case, I need to improve it.

August 2020 Partnerships

After the launch on ProductHunt, I got several requests for partnerships. I decided to move forward with StackCommerce and AppSumo. Both platforms feature lifetime deals on their site.

I had to launch another time for both platforms. I learned that you don't launch a product only once. You launch it over and over again, and every time it is a combination of excitement and nervousness.

StackCommerce has a big outreach with their network of publisher and I got featured on multiple sites there.

AppSumo on the other hand has different placements on their website. I was in the Marketplace where people could only find my product when they actively search for it. The outreach was definitely lower but the revenue share was higher.

Hey, thanks for asking! I think if you have no audience or followers both platforms are good to get things started without focusing too much on marketing. It helps to get early users, feedback, critic, feature requests.

Also, you start to get an email list.
However, for my next project, I would try to avoid both platforms 😂
If you only have 1 revenue stream a LTD makes it hard to scale in the future.

Hey Gobie, it's been about a month since you posted and I'm curious to learn, how have these two partnerships gone for you? Have they been worthwhile investments?

June 2020 Launched on ProductHunt

I was so nervous. I accidentally pressed the pre-launch button on ProductHunt and thought I could change it later...well you can't!
Now I was in a position where I had to launch. There were so many things I had to prepare...

  • Check out every little flow in Resoume to make sure it works.
  • Add a promo code
  • Prepare a video of the product.

I didn't want to push that hard in one week but it still turned out great. I got a lot of traction from ProductHunt and managed to place 3rd on that day (no idea how tbh). Only a fraction of the signups converted to paying customers.
It still led to a lot of feedback and outreach.

January 8, 2020 Got my first paying customer

Today one of my first trial customers for Resoume converted to paid. I noticed when I got the email from Paypal that said "Payment of €5". It felt amazing! I think I will never forget the name of my first user. The first person who found enough value to pay for it :D

December 28, 2019 MVP

It took a month, but I'm finally done building the minimum viable product for Resoume.
I worked mostly nights and weekends, and I coded the whole thing in Vue.js with Node.js in the backend since that's what I'm the most comfortable with.
I also chose Firebase as the infrastructure since it allows me to easily integrate it and scale later on.

November 30, 2019 Idea

I've read so many times that you should solve your own problem, and so last week I sat down to think about all the problems in my life.

It turned out that I had quite a few problems worth solving, and the most interesting one led me to the idea for Resoume!
