We released recurring invoices for Responsive Invoices today. After a few requests to create this feature we put our heads down and pushed out a solid product.
The new features are:
- Recurring Invoices UI/UX
- REST API Updates
- Backend setup to produce recurring invoices
- Event tracking for all new recurring invoices, separate to normal invoices.
- Bind recurring invoices to subscriptions

Oh boy! It's been a wait but MAN is it a good feeling! On today's agenda we're proud to announce that our new home page is now live and our Developer REST API are finally seeing the light of day.
For those who don't know, creating an API from scratch is quite the feat of nature. It takes a stupid amount of planning, implementation, testing and thinking "is this easy" to pull it off.

Beautiful docs -- really looks like a quality API. Aaaaand very orange haha 😀
Slate is great for docs! I had considered them for Saasify, but we ended up going with Redoc because our platform generates docs dynamically based on OpenAPI specs (example docs https://synopsis.saasify.sh/docs).

I like the website redesign, looks clean and not a boring run of the mill color palette. Cool animations around a few of the buttons, props. I might suggest increasing the font size slightly on the Text in the logo?? the white thin 'Invoices' is a little lost in the light color background for someone looking with fresh eyes was a little difficult to find the company name. Product looks prime, I'm sure its going to take off. What platforms have you leveraged most for marketing?

For a few more specifics on the API build, we used a combination of techniques to build it up.
Specifications
At the ground of it we use JSON schema documents to create specifications for each method, test the live API endpoints and even test that our sample JSON docs are correct.Template
From there we use the (common) Slate documentation framework (https://github.com/ianstormtaylor/slate), but with our own little twist to it. You'll find that there's a whole lot of customisation on the branding , just to make it all stand out a little more, and be a little easier to read.Content
We use Markdown to write up the top and bottom of the documentation. The endpoints themselves are dynamically built from the JSON schema files themselves.Hopefully this helps you out a little?

As we are an invoice based company we needed to ensure that our customers feel that they are protected. From today onwards we are providing Google Authenticator access to all accounts that choose to enable the feature.
Our next change will be updating the website. We feel as though we don't sell ourselves enough. This is going to change.
Success! I've finally been able to set aside the time this weekend to complete a basic soft launch of my product!
There however is always work to be done! Coming up:
- Invoice Seller Logos
- Invoice Colours

There have been continual updates on the project in the last few weeks. Here's a basic overview:
- Subscriptions and billing have been built (this took the bulk of my time)
- The website has been started and a basic setup is almost complete.
- The brief for a new logo has been sent
- The dashboard is underway
P.S. I can't believe that this project has moved quite a bit in only a few months. Here's to hopefully soft launching in the next month.
Second quick update.
Invoices, invoice histories, unpaid invoice notifications and registration are now all complete.
We're now onto looking into the billing model and a few tweaks here and there.
A quick progress update. Buyers, sellers and payment records are now complete. A lot of behind the scene testing updates have exposed a few bugs that are now fixed.
What remains? We're looking at running a quality assurance session on the website before adding reminder emails, dashboard, invoice statuses and invoice histories.
It's a little celebration for me. There are many many small components to make and test within this application so simply being able to save is a great milestone for me.
This isn't a full update, but more of a note. Building invoices from scratch with all the bells and whistles to make the experience smooth is hard.
Although the chances for this website are going to be that it will only have a limited audience, I'm still trying hard to make this one solid website. What does that mean to me?
- Things need to be simple to use (and not just to me)
- Everything needs to be responsive (without weird situations)
- No bugs
As a website developer by trade playing with UX isn't my forte, however I'd rather focus on it than ignore it and have my product slump.
