July 10, 2025 Why I made Retro Messenger

I've always enjoyed the interfaces of the early systems. Many were difficult to traverse but I still think they have a charm to them, and I thought it would be fun to create a retro-style chat application that was locally based instead of being yet another web app.

Because I think there should be an easy to use, privacy-oriented messenging service that isn't filled to the brim with subscriptions and micro-transactions. It was fun to work on something local and low-level.
