Hey everyone! 👋
Like many of you, I love the idea of the circular economy. Buying and selling used items locally is great for our wallets and even better for the environment.
But there is a massive, growing problem: The scammers.
Whether it’s Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, or Craigslist, these platforms are increasingly flooded with fake listings and bait-and-switch tactics. It’s reached a point where buyers are terrified of getting scammed by people who don't even physically possess the items they are trying to sell. This lack of security completely destroys user trust and discourages people from sustainable shopping.
So, I decided to build a safer alternative: Reusifi (www.reusifi.com).
It’s a completely free-to-use digital marketplace for local classifieds (electronics, furniture, fashion, vehicles), but with one major difference: AI Fraud Protection.
Instead of just letting anyone post an image they found on Google, Reusifi uses AI to verify that the listed item is authentic and genuinely in the seller's physical possession before the listing goes live. We proactively filter out scammers before they can even reach the buyers.
The Goal: I want to make local buying safe again and help push the second-hand economy forward by completely removing the anxiety of being scammed.
Note: The web platform is live right now, and I also have native iOS and Android apps built that will be published very soon!

This is a clever approach to improving trust in local marketplaces. AI verification could make a real difference if it reliably filters out fraudulent listings. As you scale, pairing that with secure backend practices such as authentication, input validation, and audit logging will be just as important. securecodingpractices.com has some helpful best-practice guidance on that side of application security. As Aryan mentioned in his comment, trust is the core product and not just the marketplace.
100% — and that’s the right place to focus.
What’s interesting with ‘trust as the product’ is that users don’t consciously notice it until it’s missing.
The unlock is usually making that trust visible early enough that it changes behavior.
Curious how you’re surfacing that in the first user interaction — that’s where it tends to convert or get ignored.

The interesting part to me isn’t the AI itself it’s shifting verification from something buyers have to figure out after messaging a seller to something that happens before a listing even goes live.
Have you had any early feedback on whether that changes how quickly buyers are willing to reach out compared with traditional marketplaces?

The interesting challenge with Reusifi is that trust is the core product, not just the marketplace itself.
How are you thinking about scaling AI verification while keeping the process fast enough that sellers still prefer Reusifi over existing local marketplaces?

Regarding your question, the ads are posted asynchronously and the results will be sent in the mail . And now with limited test data each verification completes in under 10 seconds. After getting enough traction, I can change configuration to process large number of requests as soon as possible.
