Room Service
Understand what’s filling your Mac before you clean it
I started working on Room Service thinking I was building a simple Mac cleanup tool. Like most people, I assumed the problem was obvious: Xcode builds, Docker images, node_modules… just remove what you don’t need.
But while working on it, I noticed something different. A lot of disk usage isn’t actually visible or easy to understand. It’s scattered across caches, system data, build artifacts, and leftovers that macOS doesn’t really explain well.
Even without AI, this already makes things messy. But recently, local AI tools added another layer on top. Model files, caches, and downloads from tools like Ollama, Hugging Face, and Whisper just grow silently in the background.
So it stopped feeling like a cleanup problem. It felt more like a visibility problem.
Instead of asking “what should I delete?”, the real question became “what is actually taking space?”
That shift changed how I approached the product. Curious if others have run into the same thing, especially with dev setups.
About
I kept hitting “Disk is full” on macOS with no clear reason. Most storage is hidden, and local AI tools make it worse with models and caches growing silently. It felt more like a visibility issue.
