Music royalty management for independent artists, managers,

January 8, 2026 I built a royalty tracking dashboard because musicians keep leaving money on the table

Hey IH! 👋

I just launched Royally Tuned — a music royalty management platform for independent artists, managers, and bands.

## The Problem

Here's something most people don't know: musicians don't just get paid from one place. There are like 6+ different organizations that owe you money when your song gets played:

- PROs (BMI, ASCAP, SESAC) — performance royalties

- The MLC — mechanical royalties from streaming

- SoundExchange — neighboring rights royalties

- Your distributor — streaming revenue

- Your publisher (if you have one)

- Sync licensing (if you're lucky)

Most independent artists register with maybe ONE of these. They have no idea the others exist. Or they start registering, get overwhelmed, and give up.

I've personally helped three different musician friends untangle this mess. One of them was missing ~40% of his potential royalties because he'd never heard of the MLC.

There's no central place to track all of this. You either hire a publishing admin who takes 15-20% of your royalties forever, or you manage chaos across 6 different dashboards and email logins.

## The Solution

Royally Tuned is a single dashboard where artists can:

✅ Track all their royalty registrations in one place

✅ See what organizations they're missing

✅ Monitor their metadata across platforms

✅ Get checklists for each release

✅ Managers can track multiple artists

✅ Bands can manage splits

Pricing: $35/month flat. No percentage of royalties. Ever.

I specifically didn't want to build another tool that takes a cut of artists' earnings. Musicians already get squeezed by everyone. Pay the subscription, keep 100% of what you collect.

## The Stack

Kept it simple:

- React + TypeScript

- Supabase (auth + database)

- Stripe (payments)

- Vercel (hosting)

## Where I'm At

Just launched publicly. Getting early users through word of mouth in music communities. Focused on the US market first since that's where PRO/MLC/SoundExchange complexity is highest.

## What I'd Love Feedback On

1. Pricing — Is $35/mo too high for independent artists? Too low? Should I have tiers?

2. Positioning — Should I focus on individual artists first, or go after managers who handle multiple artists?

3. Marketing — Where do independent musicians hang out online? (Besides Twitter/X and Reddit)

Would love to hear from anyone in the music space, or anyone who's built tools for creators. How did you find your first 100 users?

Thanks for reading! Happy to answer any questions about the music royalty rabbit hole. It's way deeper than you'd think. 🐇🕳️

Also happy to do a quick breakdown of how music royalties actually work if anyone's curious. It's genuinely confusing and I had to learn it all the hard way helping friends.

The TL;DR is: one song played on Spotify generates at least 3 different types of royalties, paid by 3 different organizations, on 3 different schedules. And if you're not registered with all of them, that money just... sits there.

About

I watched too many talented musicians leave money on the table because the royalty system is a maze. PROs, MLC, SoundExchange, metadata, splits—it's overwhelming. I built Royally Tuned to help them get all their money.
