Everything about running

Visit Website
April 7, 2021 500 newsletter subscribers!

Halfway to a real milestone is a milestone in its own right. Right?

Here’s how I got to 500:

  • Asked Twitter followers to subscribe. No, seriously. I literally sent direct messages to the followers who had been following my Twitter account telling them that I write this newsletter, and that they should sign up. I guess this netted around 50 followers, maybe 100. More importantly, it opened the door to some pretty interesting opportunities.

  • FaceBook leads advertising. I’ve dropped some cash 💰 into trying to kickstart the growth. After experimenting I’ve found that I can get a subscriber for around $.60. However, the engagement rate is quite poor, so the price of an engaged subscriber is more like three times that. Will have to experiment further with audiences to see if I can bring that engagement rate up.

The newsletter still goes out every Monday morning. And you should still subscribe, even if you’re not a runner. Yet.

March 2021 First paying customer!

Although I don’t technically sell anything on the site, I still signed up my first customer.

A runner who had downloaded one of my free training plans reached out. She wanted a custom plan, and my input along the way. I guess that’s what they call coaching.

I loose act as a coach for a few runners through a local running group I’ve started. But those are entirely informal, unpaid, assignments that I do simply because I like to talk about running with people. This person knew one of them, and that’s how she found me.

I’m not particularly interested in making a business out of coaching. Still, a bit of revenue doesn’t hurt.

Want a free training plan? I have a couple on offer at the link below. More to come in the near future!

January 1, 2021 Started a weekly newsletter

My new year’s resolution is simple. Create content about running. Every single week, for 52 weeks straight.

I shipped the first edition of the weekly newsletter to the 50 or so people who were subscribed to new post updates on January 2nd, 2021.

My goal with the newsletter is to give the people who subscribe a running start to the week. To remind them that running is awesome, and that they are lucky if they can get out for a run this week.

Are you a runner? Sign up!

Not a runner? Sign up anyways. I’ll convince you to become one.

November 2020 Wrote and published my first post

I had no idea what Run161 was going to be at this point.

All I knew was that I had a story to tell, and I needed somewhere to tell it. I wrote the post, registered the domain name, and published the first post more or less in one sitting.

Check it out if you want to know how Run161 first came to be. It’s a glimpse into a. story about the ultimate grief, and how running helps me live with it.

It’s as true today as it was back then.
