Turn 5-minute voice messages into bullet points

October 17, 2025 Built a WhatsApp bot that summarizes long voice messages - is this useful or just me?

Hey All,

I have this one family member who sends 5-7 minute WhatsApp voice messages. Every time. Multiple questions buried in there, random thoughts, things I need to respond to.

I'd listen while doing other stuff, then completely forget half of what was said. Rewinding through a 6-minute message to find "that one question" was driving me nuts.

So I built SayWhat - a WhatsApp bot that summarizes forwarded voice messages. It pulls out:

- Questions asked

- Key points mentioned

- Action items

You still listen to the message (I'm not trying to replace that), but now you have notes to reference when responding.

Built it in the last 2 weeks. Currently on Render's free tier, limited to 5 active users because of API costs.

My question: Is this a real problem for other people, or did I just build something for my very specific annoyance?

Who else gets buried in long voice messages? Is this worth developing further?

Looking for brutally honest feedback.

About

Got tired of forgetting to respond to parts of long voice messages. Built this so I could listen once and have notes on questions, key points, and action items. If I needed it, others might too.
