April 30, 2026 New release!

New version of Scamp is finally out!

I reworked the toolbar, added more visual controls for things like CSS grid, transitions, and visibility, lots of other improvements to the code parser that makes the magic happen ✨

April 27, 2026 Hoping to release a new version + marketing this week

I have release candidate but I feel like I don't have the time to test on all the platforms plus do marketing this week, but I'll find a way to make it work! The new release has some features I'm really excited to share and some major design clean up. On the marketing front I've been trying to develop my brand story a little more, just iterating on copy for the website and evolving the brand styles.

April 25, 2026 Spent the week posting on Threads

In between working on new features I posted fairly consistently on threads. I think right now it might be the best place for builder to share progress. I can promote, or just share my wins or struggles, and people actually engage. The engagement might be small at first. But one nice thing has been some people have been genuinely interested in what I'm building, in my process, or at the very least in my thoughts on design and products. I think it's a great place for me to build in public.

April 22, 2026 3 Weeks In

Three weeks in and I'm genuinely blown away, I finally have the design tool I always wanted. I've been using Scamp to design Scamp itself, which feels like the right kind of dogfooding. It's been the perfect companion for working alongside coding agents and staying close to my actual development files. I've shared early builds with a few designers and I'm waiting to hear back. It's available to download now, but I'm holding off on pushing the marketing hard until a few more features land.

It is so much more efficient when you can "dogfood" your own product to build itself because you feel every minor friction point as a user and a developer at the same time. Most designers don't realize that the "handover" process is usually where the best ideas die, simply because traditional design tools don't actually understand how CSS behaves in a real browser environment.

Since you are working directly in CSS alongside coding agents, does Scamp allow you to import your existing stylesheets so you can visually tweak classes that are already live in your codebase?

Hey thanks for the comment! Unfortunately right now the import stage is a little rough, I'm working on it. The best way to do this is to give a page+ the stylesheet to Claude code running in your project folder and ask it to create a scamp page that matches your design. I'm trying to build scamp in a way that isnt very opinionated but we do have a few rules, each element needs its own class and data attribute, and they have to include a unique identifier.

Dogfooding a design tool using AI agents is a masterclass in modern product development because it exposes layout friction that static tools simply never see.

The strategy of using Claude to bridge the gap between live stylesheets and Scamp is a smart workaround since it maintains your code's integrity while you solve the data attribute mapping.

By the way the way I work with digital PR and media placement helps technical founders turn these developer focused tools into industry standards by securing features on high authority platforms like Yahoo Finance or MSN.

Focusing on a non-opinionated structure is the right move because developers value flexibility over rigid frameworks every time.

About

I've been a UX designer and developer for over 10 years. I've always wanted a design tool with the visual controls of Figma or Sketch, but one that also let me work directly in CSS without leaving the app.
