Scanta

Dynamic QR codes for printed things

Visit Website
May 3, 2026 I built a QR code generator because static codes kept breaking on me

The problem started with a restaurant menu.

A friend runs a small restaurant and asked me to help set up a QR code for their menu. We generated one, printed it on the table tents, and everything worked fine — until they updated the menu PDF and moved it to a new URL. Every single table tent was now pointing at a 404.

That's the problem with static QR codes: the destination is baked in. The moment the URL changes, the code is dead. And reprinting table tents isn't free.

So I built Scanta.

What it does

Scanta creates dynamic QR codes — the code points to a short redirect, and you control where that redirect goes from a dashboard. Print the code once, then change the destination whenever you need to. The physical code never changes.

The use cases are broader than I expected:

  • Restaurant menus (the original use case)

  • - Business cards pointing to LinkedIn or a portfolio

  • - Packaging that links to updated instructions

  • - Event signage that needs to switch destinations

What's free

I was frustrated that most QR code tools gate the useful stuff (editable codes, analytics) behind paid plans. Scanta's free tier includes:

  • Dynamic (editable) codes — no upgrade needed

  • - No scan limits

  • - No expiry

  • - No watermarks

  • - Basic scan counts

Where it stands

Early days. Just launched. The product works — I'm using it myself and a few others are too. Now focused on getting more people to try it and listening to what they actually need.

If you're building anything that involves printed materials or physical-to-digital links, I'd love to hear what your QR code pain points are.
