Scriptive evolved out of a custom web application I built to publish a book on Ruby on Rails development. As I prepared to launch the book I realized that the web app I built could be valuable for other technical writers looking to share code-heavy books in a better package than a static PDF.

So, I scoped out what I needed for an MVP and started generalizing the code I'd already written for my custom app into a SaaS-ified version that anyone could use.
