SeatPlan.io is a drag-and-drop seating chart tool
I built a seating chart tool for my wedding. Now 200+ people pay for it.
Last year I was planning my wedding and hit the seating chart problem. You know the one—shuffling names around, remembering who can't sit with whom, aunt drama, dietary requirements, last-minute RSVPs destroying your careful arrangements.
I looked for tools. Found two categories: enterprise event software that costs hundreds per month and assumes you have a team, or free templates that break the moment you make a change.
So I built what I needed. Drag-and-drop floor plan editor, guest list with tags for dietary needs and relationships, and the ability to just move people around without everything falling apart.
Used it for my wedding. Worked great. Figured other people might want it.
Put it out there. Within weeks, 200+ paying customers—wedding planners, hotel event coordinators, corporate admins, people who'd been suffering through Excel for years.
The thing that surprised me: I built it for weddings, but the biggest pain point is actually teams. Multiple people needing to edit the same seating plan without overwriting each other. So I shipped real-time collaboration. Now a hotel coordinator and their client can both be in the same plan, moving guests around, seeing changes live.
Just launched an Event Manager tier (£25/month) for professionals running multiple events. B2B is slower than B2C but the conversations are more interesting.
What I learned:
Scratch your own itch is cliché because it works
The feature you think is core (drag-and-drop) isn't what sells it—the feature you add later (real-time collab) is
B2C users convert fast but churn. B2B converts slow but sticks.
Building at seatplan.io if you want to see it.
About
I built SeatPlan.io because I was planning my own wedding and discovered that every seating chart tool was either enterprise software priced for corporate events or clunky templates that didn't work!
