June 30, 2023 $0k to $100k in 6 Months

Honestly stoked to share the incredible success story of our agency over the past six months. It has been an arduous journey, filled with determination, hard work, and countless sleepless nights.

Today, I stand before you feeling tremendous achievement as we celebrate crossing the remarkable milestone of $100k in just half a year. It's a testament to what can be accomplished with passion and the determination to make this work.

Starting from ground zero, we faced numerous challenges and setbacks along the way. Building a business from scratch is never an easy task, but having the determination to make it work, it honestly was achievable. We understood that success would not come overnight, but we were ready to put in the effort and make sacrifices to reach our objectives.

Our journey began with identifying a gap in the market and developing a unique value proposition. We carved out a niche in the digital marketing industry, specialising in providing tailor-made strategies for small and medium-sized businesses. By offering a productised service with personalised solutions that resonated with our target audience, we were able to establish ourselves as trusted advisors in our field.

As we gained traction, we focused on building a strong brand presence. We invested in a comprehensive marketing strategy, utilising a mix of content marketing, social media outreach, and targeted advertising. We engaged with our audience through informative blog posts, industry insights, and case studies, positioning ourselves as thought leaders in the industry. This approach generated leads and helped foster long-term relationships with our clients.

Looking ahead, we are more motivated than ever to take our agency to new heights. The next six months hold tremendous potential, and we are eager to double our success. We have already outlined ambitious growth strategies, including expanding our service offerings, exploring new markets, and investing in advanced technologies to streamline our operations. Additionally, we plan to further nurture our existing client relationships and forge new partnerships within our industry.

While the road ahead may be challenging, we are armed with the knowledge that hard work and determination pay off. We are confident that by staying true to our values and relentlessly pursuing our goals, we will continue to achieve remarkable milestones. With each new achievement, we will strive to positively impact the businesses we serve and inspire others in the Indie Hacker community to reach for their dreams.

Curious to hear the achievements everyone else has achieved?

June 27, 2023 How many people tell you to up your prices? My journey as a bootstrapped entrepreneur

Hey Indie Hackers,

I need to get something off my chest that I'm sure many of you can relate to. It seems like everywhere I turn, someone is telling me to raise my prices. Whether it's coaches, business friends, or even random calls, they all have one common advice: "Charge more!"

Now, don't get me wrong, I understand the importance of pricing your products or services appropriately. I know that undervaluing what you offer can be detrimental to your business. But what these well-meaning people fail to understand is that building a successful business takes time, especially when you start from scratch.

When I started my agency journey, I had nothing but a vision and a determination to make it happen. I couldn't just waltz in and charge exorbitant amounts like some established businesses do. Charging $6,000-$10,000 right off the bat was simply not feasible.

Sure, there may be people out there who disagree with my perspective. They argue that raising prices is the key to success, and they might have valid points. However, I want to emphasise that it's crucial to consider various factors before making such a decision.

When someone tells you to increase your prices, ask them more questions. Dive deeper into their reasoning and understand how it aligns with your business goals. It's essential to think about how price adjustments can impact your ability to attract new clients.

If you find yourself in a position where raising prices is a viable option, by all means, go for it! But if you're not quite there yet, don't fret. Trust me, it will come with time and experience.

Building a business is a journey, and pricing is just one piece of the puzzle. Instead of solely focusing on increasing prices, concentrate on providing exceptional value to your clients. Build a solid foundation, establish your credibility, and gradually work your way up.

Remember, success is not solely defined by the number on your price tag. It's about nurturing relationships, delivering excellent results, and continuously refining your craft. These aspects will ultimately contribute to your ability to charge higher prices down the road.

So, the next time someone tells you to up your prices, take a moment to reflect. Consider your unique circumstances and the stage your business is currently in. Don't rush the process; embrace the journey, and trust that the right time to raise your prices will come.

Keep hustling and stay focused on your goals. Success is within reach!

In my case, I upped the price one month ago and sales kind-of stopped, and heard some customers now mention the pricing is too steep for them, but it could also be that the customers saying this are no longer in my target audience as I'm slowly migrating the model towards agencies instead of individuals.

    1. 1

Really interesting isn't it? I did the same and had the same outcome. Are you starting to niche down and then up your prices?

      1. 2

I think it was the other way around, I first upped my prices than realized what the niche is.

  2. 2

Well said. If I had a dollar from every person that told me to charge more, I’d have more than my MRR.

June 8, 2023 How We Hit Our Yearly Financial Goal in July

We're only halfway through the year, and against all odds, our agency has already hit our yearly financial goal! It has been an exhilarating, and honestly intense, journey filled with experimentation, resilience, and a touch of magic.

Embracing Business Model Transformation:
As entrepreneurs, it's essential to adapt and evolve in an ever-changing marketplace. Recognizing this, we decided to reassess our business model and make some bold changes. We conducted a thorough analysis of our target market, competition, and industry trends to identify areas for improvement and innovation.
We realized that by repositioning our services and refining our value proposition, we could better meet the evolving needs of our clients. We conducted market research, listened to customer feedback, and identified emerging trends in the industry. This process allowed us to identify the gaps and opportunities that would ultimately lead us to success.

With a clear vision in mind, we restructured our offerings, expanded our service portfolio, and refined our pricing strategy. This shift not only attracted new customers but also increased our average customer value. By providing more tailored solutions and addressing pain points directly, we were able to establish stronger relationships with our clients, leading to higher customer retention rates.

Unleashing the Power of Twitter Ads:
To maximize our reach and amplify our message, we turned to the vast potential of social media advertising. After careful consideration, we chose Twitter as our primary platform to run targeted ad campaigns. With its massive user base and diverse demographics, Twitter presented us with an excellent opportunity to reach our ideal audience.
We created captivating ad copy and engaging visual content that resonated with our target customers. By leveraging Twitter's powerful targeting capabilities, we narrowed down our audience to ensure our ads reached the right people at the right time. We continuously monitored the performance of our campaigns, making data-driven adjustments to optimize our ad spend and maximize conversions.

The results were incredible. Twitter ads helped us generate a significant increase in inbound leads and conversions. We witnessed a surge in website traffic and saw a substantial boost in brand awareness. The combination of our revamped business model and Twitter ads propelled us forward, allowing us to surpass our financial goals.

Lessons Learned and Future Plans:
Reflecting on our journey thus far, there are a few key lessons we've learned:

Embrace change: The business landscape is constantly evolving, and adaptability is crucial. Don't be afraid to reevaluate your strategies and make bold moves when necessary.

Customer-centric approach: Truly understanding your customers' needs and pain points is the key to success. Tailor your offerings to address their specific challenges and deliver exceptional value.

Leverage social media advertising: Social media platforms offer powerful tools for targeted advertising. Explore different platforms and choose the ones that align best with your target audience and business objectives.

June 1, 2023 Automating Admin Processes

Our agency is growing, and so is the list of admin tasks. As you know, setting up robust processes and systems is crucial when it comes to providing top-notch services to our clients. I want to emphasize the importance of automating administrative tasks and focusing more on SEO strategies and implementation to offer our clients nothing but the best.

Automation is the name of the game! I've been diligently working on streamlining our workflows and reducing the time spent on repetitive administrative tasks. Why? Because if a task needs to be done more than three times, it's time to automate it. By doing so, we can allocate our precious time and energy where it matters the most: delivering exceptional results for our clients.

One of the significant achievements on this front is the successful automation of our onboarding process. Now, whenever a client's payment goes through, a series of magical actions take place behind the scenes. An Asana board is created, a Notion page comes to life, and their campaign kicks off seamlessly. This automated setup has freed up valuable time, enabling me to focus on crucial aspects such as website audits, in-depth keyword research, and every other element essential to ensuring the success of our client's campaigns.

This newfound ability to dedicate ourselves entirely to the core elements of SEO has already yielded remarkable outcomes. We're able to dig deeper into our clients' websites, identify areas of improvement, and implement tailored strategies to boost their online presence. By leveraging the power of automation, we're not just offering 100% to our clients but also exploring new avenues to exceed their expectations.

What's been your best automation this year?

March 26, 2023 Replying to Clients on Weekends

As an indie hacker running an SEO agency, one of the biggest challenges is navigating emails on the weekends. Most of my clients are the founders or CEO's of their companies, which means they have busy schedules and often send emails late at night or on weekends. While I try to maintain a healthy work-life balance, I understand the importance of being responsive to my clients' needs.

This weekend, one of my clients emailed me in response to a review I had asked for three weeks ago. The email wasn't demanding, but it did instruct me to take down certain pages. As an SEO agency, it's our job to ensure that our clients' websites are optimized for search engines, and we take our clients' requests seriously.

So, how do I navigate emails on the weekends? First and foremost, I make sure to check my inbox regularly. While I may not always respond immediately, I do try to acknowledge receipt of the email so my clients know I've seen it. I also prioritize urgent requests and try to respond to those as quickly as possible.

In the case of the email from my client this weekend, I immediately reviewed the pages in question and responded to the email with a plan of action. I explained what changes we would make and when they could expect to see results. I also made sure to thank them for bringing the issue to my attention and let them know that we take their concerns seriously.

Running an SEO agency can be a 24/7 job, but I've found that setting boundaries and prioritizing my workload helps me maintain a healthy work-life balance. While I do check my emails on the weekends, I also make sure to take breaks and spend time with my family and friends. Ultimately, my clients appreciate my responsiveness and dedication, but they also understand that I need to take care of myself to provide the best possible service.

As an SEO agency owner, it can be challenging to navigate emails on the weekends, especially when dealing with busy clients. However, setting boundaries and prioritizing workload can help maintain a healthy work-life balance. It's important to acknowledge receipt of emails, prioritize urgent requests, and respond with a plan of action. Ultimately, clients appreciate responsiveness and dedication but also understand the importance of taking care of themselves to provide the best service.

I completely agree with you. Setting boundaries and managing workload effectively can help maintain a healthy work-life balance, which is crucial for overall well-being and productivity.

Acknowledging emails and prioritizing urgent requests is a great approach to show clients that their concerns are being heard and addressed promptly. At the same time, it's important to communicate with clients about the days and hours you are available and when they can expect a response.

This sets expectations and helps manage client needs while also ensuring that you have time to take care of yourself.

    Hey @tomgalland,

I have been in the same situation earlier during early days of ZeroAdo, my growth marketing company.

I was replying to clients 7 days, my response time was like 2 hours, leaving 12AM-6AM for sleep aside.

I realized that, in the beginning, clients assumed that my team and I were off on weekends and never placed any requests on weekends. But when they started seeing my replies on weekends as well, I believe they started expecting replies in real-time and started seeing requests on weekends as well.

That's when I realized that as a founder, I could choose to work on Sat-Sun as well, but I need to keep those days optional and calm for my own deep work to grow the business and serve clients better on Monday-Friday with a fresh mind.

So, now I have made it a point to fix communication days and hours for clients. It's Monday-Friday from 9:00 to 19:00. For some international clients, we do meet during other hours but those are always pre-scheduled and not on weekends.

When we set communication hours like this, clients very well regard and respect that and they never place any request on weekends.

Sure, founders, SEO, and other business people might be working on weekends and might be placing requests, but we can choose to open inbox, see, and reply to them on Monday, that is what has been working for us well.

And if you are opening such emails on weekends, you can apply a reminder to those to remind yourself on Monday to take care of it, with Gmail or another email client like Superhuman.

Hope this approach can work for you as well : )

    Cheers!

Thank you for sharing your experience and insights on managing communication and setting boundaries with clients.

Your approach of setting clear communication days and hours for clients while also prioritizing your own deep work and well-being is a great example of balancing customer service with personal productivity. It's also great to hear that your clients have respected your boundaries and that your approach has been working well for your business.

March 23, 2023 SEO Subscription Service Model

I've recently changed the structure of my SEO agency to a fully subscription-based model. It's been a big decision, but one that I believe will bring numerous benefits to both my clients and my business.

I've built my Agency up to 7 clients but have hit a brick wall with new leads/clients. This decision isn't a quick and uneducated decision but something I've been thinking about for a while.

The subscription-based model allows us to offer a range of packages with different levels of services, catering to the specific needs of our clients. This will give them the flexibility to choose a package that best suits their requirements and budget.

Another advantage of a subscription-based model is that it ensures a consistent revenue stream for the business. This allows us to focus on providing high-quality services without worrying about fluctuations in revenue.

Additionally, the subscription-based model encourages long-term relationships with clients, which is beneficial for both parties. It allows us to build a deeper understanding of our clients' businesses and goals, and in turn, provide more tailored and effective SEO strategies.

As an Indie Hacker, do you feel more confident to engage in service's if their Prices are available on their website?
