Job search and newsletter for Serious Games, VR & Simulation
Hi! I'm Kit, and back in 2009 I got my first taste of the Serious Games industry- using game engine technology to solve problems beyond entertainment. Now games and real-time engines are exploding in popularity, and power everything from teaching in VR to training AI using live simulations.
Over a decade later and I've been in so many positions in this industry- as a freelancer, an employee, a manager and an executive in a small group of studios.
I've been on both sides of the interview desk when hiring and being hired, have interviewed dozens of people and reviewed hundreds of resumes with many different recruiters.
One thing I noticed during this all this was a lack of any clear gathering place for our industry when searching for work- our friends and partners in the recruiting industry told us that ordinary job boards and candidate search engines really didn't often feature the kinds of skills we needed, even though they were becoming more and more common.
Similarly, while there are forums and job boards for the video game industry, candidates who have the skills might not have the desire to solve business problems.
I'm setting out to create a service to aggregate and communicate job opportunities across the Serious Games ecosystem, stating with a weekly email newsletter.
I'm an engineer at heart and often overcomplicate things. I've resolved to do things a bit differently- https://www.seriousgamesjobs.com has been a very market-driven endeavour so far. I'm building in the open, and I'll be writing about our adventures (and misadventures) with growth and advertising soon.
I'm always keen for feedback or ideas- please feel free to reach out to me at kit <at> seriousgamesjobs <dot> com!
About
I've been working in the Serious Games industry, using games technology for non-entertainment purposes for over 10 years. I couldn't find any place dedicated to jobs right for my peers, so I'm scratching my own itch!
