ServerAuth
Server Management & SSH Access Contol
This week we launched an awesome new feature on SeverAuth. As part of our existing SSH Key Management Service you can now enable Server Monitoring at no extra charge, giving you insights into key performance metrics.
Server Monitoring provides you with a new dashboard inside your ServerAuth account where you can see real-time statistics for your server, showing your system load, memory usage, and more.
The statistics are shown on easy to read graphs, which can be filtered to show statistics from the last 30 minutes, hour, day all the way up to 14 days.
Along side this awesome new feature we've introduced a new landpage to give you a preview of how it works:
We recently pushed a nice shiny ui out to the main ServerAuth.com platform. We made use of the awesome tailwindui package and it made things so much easier.
We'd already been using tailwindcss for some time, and had updated our main site to use the ui package when we launched our blog.
Our images on the main site have been updated to show off the new design:

Super excited to announce we had our first paying customer over the last weekend for ServerAuth! 🙌
It comes less than a year after we originally launched ServerAuth and just a week after we pushed live the paid plans and extra features! (Prior to this we had a limited free early-access program)
After years of trying various projects, it's an amazing feeling to see the first payment go into Stripe. Especially after the minimal amounts of marketing we feel we've done for ServerAuth, but for us it highlights one place where we've gone wrong with previous projects and that is to generally stick to industries you know and always build an MVP first to help validate the idea!
It's also such as massive motivational boost too! We always suspected that having that first paying customer would have that effect but never realised just how much of a boost it would give!
Time to go work on some more features! 💪

After several months of validation and improvements, we've today launched ServerAuth on ProductHunt and are now open for business!
We've been working hard on bringing scheduled server access support to ServerAuth, which now allows you to restrict who can access your server, and when.
Check us out on ProductHunt below. Here's to a productive summer!

After 4 - 5 months of collecting feedback from users first impressions of ServerAuth we've released our first update which has now added the support for Deployment Keys.
Aside from a self hosted option, Deployment Keys were one of the biggest comments we received. People wanted to be able to give their integration pipelines and other services access to their servers without attaching the key to a user. For a MVP point of view this was fine but as we started to iterate on ServerAuth and refine parts of it, adding a dedicated section for Deployment Keys became more and more of a requested feature so here we are!
Check it out now at https://serverauth.com

We're super proud to announce that ServerAuth has today launched to the world!
Our currently free to use SSH key management platform makes it easy for you and your team to control server access, without having to manually manage passwords or add individual SSH keys to servers.
With an easy to use and intuitive interface built on the amazing tailwindcss and laravel framework, and backed by our opensource server agent we know that ServerAuth will make managing your server access a breeze!
@mikebarlow just posted our first article, explaining how ServerAuth can help with making you GDPR compliant when your staff are accessing clients servers. Check it out below!

What are your go-to tools to plan a feature, or write a spec for your latest project?
Personally I've always been a fan of a simple Google Doc, combined with a Trello board to plan out the planning to launch.

So one thing we know people are rightly going to be concerned about with ServerAuth is the fact that you're giving a 3rd party the ability to control who can access your server.
That alone will undoubtedly be an instant no for some people, and I dare say the security policy in some enterprise organisations would forbid it.
That being said, we've worked out a way of doing this that reduces risk, and makes using ServerAuth no less secure than buying a hosting account or virtual server.
We had some clear rules we want to follow:
- We never, ever want access to someones server. Not only for their safety, but for our own.
2 We should never need to be able to remotely run any commands on a server, it'd just be asking for a whole heap of trouble, and is totally unnecessary.
3 The user should never be tied in to the platform.
With that in mind, we've devised a plan. We'll be distributing an entirely open-source linux package that gets installed on the server. It's a self contained executable, which you provide a unique decode key.
Your server then periodically calls up to our api, requesting the public keys for your users. This is a secure, one-time url each time the request is made. The resulting data encrypted using your own decryption key.
We've been running a small scale proof of concept of this ourselves and it's working amazingly well.
We're hoping to have some more details on when we'll be opening up ServerAuth for early access trials. If you'd be interested in trying it out be sure to add yourself to the mailing list on the site!

I was super excited to finally launch the landing page for ServerAuth over the weekend.
I wanted to try something different. Whenever I've tinkered with side projects in the past, I've always stuck to the ol' reliable Bootstrap library.
I use it in my day job and it's undoubtedly the easiest frontend library to kick off a project with, with tons of reusable components.
Of course there's the obvious caveat of using it, and that's that 99% of the sites that use it stick out like a sore thumb.
Enter Tailwind, a 'utility first' css framework.
I'd been super skeptical of using it for a while, partly because lots of CSS frameworks come and go, and so many vanish without ever being updated.
Tailwind seems different though. It's clearly been a labour of love for it's creators, @adamwathan, @davidhemphill, Jonathan Reinink and Steve Schoger, all of whom I want to give a big shout out to for creating something so awesome.
So I finally thought 'What the heck, lets see what all the fuss is about'. I was able to build the landing page for ServerAuth.com in around 2-3 hours, a fair bit of which was spent messing with colorschemes and typography. Needless to say I'm impressed.
I'm pretty confident I'll be going all-in on Tailwind for the full ServerAuth app and site when we launch. It's made it very obvious that it'll speed up development time considerably.
So there we have it, we launched the landing page, check it out, let me know what you think!
