Smart self-service kiosks for Fortune 100 retailers
Hey Indie Hackers — I’m Patrick. After working in private equity, I took an unusual detour: I got a job at the service desk of a Fortune 100 retailer — Home Depot — and stayed for 8 months.
Why? I wanted to see the operational bottlenecks from the inside. I processed thousands of returns, order pickups, and credit card payments. I answered the same questions about item locations over and over. And I watched as lines ballooned to 40 minutes during peak hours.
Most of the work can be streamlined — and customers (especially contractors) are frustrated by the wait.
So I’m building ServiceDeskX — a smart self-service kiosk and software system that handles pickups, payments, returns, and more. It’s designed to reduce wait times, free up associates, and create a more premium in-store experience.
Managers at multiple locations are excited. We’ve got soft approval for a pilot, and I’m working on a short MVP demo now to land the full contract.
The goal: roll out to 2,000+ stores, then scale to other retailers.
I’m looking for a U.S.-based dev to help build the pilot. If you’re interested in the problem, the product, or the story — let’s talk.
