I didn’t plan on building a scheduling app.
It started with a close friend of mine who works as a nurse manager. She was spending hours every week inside messy Excel sheets, trying to cover 24/7 shifts, keep track of who was available, and still follow all the compliance rules. Most nights and weekends, instead of resting, she was fixing schedules.
After hearing her frustrations one too many times, I hacked together something small to help. That “small” project grew into Shiftable, an AI-powered scheduling tool that helps nurse managers build and share fair schedules in minutes.
When she tried it, she told me:
“Thanks to this, I finally left work on time.”
That’s when it clicked. It’s not just about scheduling — it’s about giving nurse managers their time back so they can focus on their teams and patients.
I’m six months into this project now, and sharing the journey here as I go.

I know it’s far from perfect — right now it’s just an MVP. But I wanted to share it early, learn from feedback, and see if it can help more managers and teams.

Ben, congrats on shipping! I like that your tool gives weekends back by turning rules and availability into a clean schedule in minutes. One small question. Can I lock some people or shifts first, like Ana on front desk Saturday 7 to 3, and will the app keep that while it fills the rest?
Thanks a lot for the congrats, really appreciate it! That was actually one of the first requests from my hotel manager friend — being able to lock a few shifts manually and then let the generator fill the rest. So yep, it works that way. You can also set which shifts each person is available for ahead of time, so it only assigns them where they actually can (or want to) work.
Perfect, that is exactly what people would need, and a small idea is to add role templates and rule presets so managers can lock the usual slots like weekend front desk in one click.
