Many People wondered how I managed to come up with the idea of a freelance platform, ( https://shiplance.com/ ) when months before I was about to start on job searching for a community development job.
During the pandemic, and right after being on my maternity leave, I was very frustrated with the Isolation and I was almost drowning in a depressive state. I had to call myself out, I wondered to myself, why am I always dreaming big and about making change yet I get scared to chase or follow my vision.
I have always been motivated by the tech world but for the life of me, the patience to learn code was not born in me, yet I always followed up on all the news and developments. I am an immigrant living in Norway, and I have always had this hope that, if I get lucky in life, I will try to help the people I left behind. So I started to brainstorm passively. Then the idea came straight to me.
I thought, how about starting a global social network through service? A freelance platform where users can be able to leverage their skills, hobbies or passion and earn money regardless of their educational background? I personally realize that not everyone is fortunate enough to get to a technical school, due to poverty reasons. and also lack of personal interest and passion. I also understand that the world is changing and to be able to by pass the system, online is the best medium.
I created shiplance through my personal research and hiring affordable developers to help me customize and modify it to my liking. I learned all I could by myself, watched videos, read books, followed blogs, all while taking care of 2 kids by myself. Some night I gave up some mornings I woke up and started all over again. Through trial and error, I came up with my simple mvp that has all the functions and was ready to start my journey.
Now I am ready to launch, but I am not blind to the fact I chose the hardest niche to self fund and bootstrap. Yet here I am, trying to feed the 2 sided market I created. Will I succeed or am I biting more than I can chew? I am not the model example of what investors are looking to fund, but I try all the trick and tips I can find. I will not give up..as I know this is a way to add value to society and give my life a sense of mission beyond myself.
