Shopify App Store Dataset
Data collected from the Shopify App Store
Shopify app developers have the possibility to reply to user reviews. I was wondering how many developers take advantage of the opportunity. I also wanted to see some good responses as an inspiration when replying to reviews about my apps. So I added a new column Replies To Reviews which is checked when there was at least one response to the last 10 reviews of a given app.

It turns out that developers of around 33.5% apps reply to user reviews. This includes both positive and negative reviews.
I was recently analyzing Shopify apps from the perspective of different categories. I noticed that something was wrong. The number of apps per category didn't match the numbers that you can see when browsing Shopify App Store.

After a while, I figured out that it's because an app can be assigned to multiple categories (up to 3).
Formerly I also incorrectly assumed that what you see above the app name when visiting its listing page are category and subcategory. In fact, these are the top-level categories.

Now it's all fixed. I added columns to track multiple categories and subcategories.

You can now get the Shopify App Store dataset in form of an Airtable view. It enables you to filter, sort and group the records on the spot. The best thing is that the data are updated daily, so you'll always have access to an up-to-date information. I published it as a separate product on Gumroad:

I uploaded a free sample containing top 100 Shopify apps to data.world, which is a catalog of thousands of datasets. Probably a go-to place for many data analysts.

Hopefully the free sample will prove that it's worth purchasing the full dataset. 🤞

I posted only one link to my dataset, and it was just a comment on IH. I haven't expected much. To days later... boom! First sale! Amazing feeling 😄

I've been collecting data from the Shopify App Store for my own purposes for some time already. For example, I wanted to check what's the average price of Shopify apps. I thought that I had to create a nice report with colorful charts to monetize the data. All of a sudden, I realized that a raw dataset is also valuable. I prepared a spreadsheet file and uploaded it on gumroad. That's how the MVP came into existence.
