December 2, 2019 More annotation tools + 30 weekly active users

In the month of November, we had progress with Shotmockr which I'll be revealing today.

What is Shotmockr

Shotmockr is a combination of Chrome extension and an editor for
instantly turning your screenshots or image into design mockup with little to no interaction.

It's free and you can download the extension from the link below:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/shotmockr-design-mockups/elklfjmcadphgcmlfehpnakghohbldne

Landing page: https://shotmockr.com
Editor: https://shotmockr.com/editor

Here are some of the things we achieved in November:

  1. The extension reached 30 weekly active users and also accumulated two five-star reviews on the Google Chrome store.

  2. We've added more annotation tools to the Shotmockr editor located at https://shotmockr.com/editor

They are:

=> Copy to clipboard
=> Emoji
=> Blur
=> Pen
=> and Arrow tool

We hope to finish and launch it before the end of this month.

If you're new to the app, don't forget to install the extension from Chrome store and please, let us know how to make it better.

November 5, 2019 [NEW] Visible part to editor + other new feature

It's been two weeks since the last time I made an update about Shotmockr here on indiehackers.

Today, I want to inform you about the exciting new features that have been added to the Shotmockr editor as well as the chrome extension.

  1. You can now use the extension to take a quick screenshot of the select part of any page and have it automatically open on the editor.

This is now live on the Chrome webstore and you can start using it today.

Just use the link below to install Shotmockr chrome extension:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/shotmockr-design-mockups/elklfjmcadphgcmlfehpnakghohbldne

  1. Undo/Redo

In addition to the above, there is also UNDO/REDO function now. This will help you while working on the editor and you make a mistake.

You can quickly undo or redo to go backwards and forward from your current state.

Feel free to check the chrome extension from the link above as well as the screenshot editor from the link below:

I hope you guys love this. Please, let me know in the comment section.

    Very cool app.

Do you plan on having a paid tier? If so how will you accept payments and see which users are paid?

    1. 1

      Hey Volkandkaya,

Yes, it's most likely going to be freemium. I've got some advanced features I want to add for the paid part.

Paddle would be used for accepting payment.

I would like to also ask you:

Is this something you would pay for?

      Thank you.

I don't make them enough, I do it once in a while for product hunt :)

I guess your ideal customer would be a designer/agency who does landing pages or blogs?

        1. 1

          Got it.

Yeah, you're right. Designers, agencies, bloggers e.t.c.

I would love to have your overall feedback on it though still working on it. Everything is not in shape yet.

          Thank you.

October 23, 2019 Better Mockup Editor + New Features

Yo!

Just want to give a quick update about this little screenshot app despite that I've been so busy these days managing multiple projects at the same time.

It's not easy.

Well, we were able to improve Shotmockr.

Here are what was done in the last few days:

  1. Drag and drop:

You can now drag and drop images onto the editor, then it automatically turns into mac-ish design mockup.

  1. Cropping of the screenshot:

If you make use of Shotmockr chrome extension to take a screenshot, it automatically opens up in the editor and then you can crop the screenshot to your liking.

Additionally, you can also crop images that are uploaded or dropped into the editor.

  1. Fonts:

We optimize the fonts to make the editor faster. Made it in such a way that you know the typefaces of the font you're applying on the text while annotating the screenshot.

  1. Higher DPI source image for the mac menu bar

In my last update, @atymic tested the app and notice the menu bar in the generated PNG looked blurry, so I hired another designer to redo the menu bars for us.

The graphics were delivered today and the issue is fixed.

Want to check out Shotmockr & test it out?
Please see the relevant links below. It's free:

Please, don't forget to drop your feedback on how I can make this better for you.

Thanks in advance.

Nice project! What is your plan for monetizing it?

    1. 1

      Hey,

      Thanks for the comment.

I actually created this for my own usage but might decide to make it a paid app later and it's going to be freemium.

So, the advanced features would be the ones users would pay for.

What other monetization methods would you suggest for this?

October 12, 2019 Shotmockr MVP goes live 🥰

Yesterday was the day I released the MVP of Shotmockr which include an image editor and a functional Google chrome extension.

Did you just say what is Shotmockr?

Shotmockr is a simple and easy way to create a professional-looking screenshot for your customers, team members, or even family & friends.

Not only that.

It also helps you turn the screenshot(s) or images into real-life design mockups (if you like) without photoshop or Behance.

This version has been tested severally and I just thought of sharing it with the IH community to get feedback.

Please, check it out and let me know how I can make it better for you:

Chrome extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/shotmockr-design-mockups/elklfjmcadphgcmlfehpnakghohbldne

Screenshot editor: https://shotmockr.com/editor

Thank you.

I had a quick test, and it seems like a cool project. It reminds me of Carbon, which is a similar tool for code.

I did notice the menu bar in the generated PNG is blurry, probably because i'm on a retina macbook. Maybe worth using a higher DPI source image or SVG?

    https://sc.atymic.dev/c740aa.png

Maybe also consider adding mobile devices as well :)

    1. 1

      Atymic,

      I appreciate the feedback.

I will definitely make an adjustment to the menu bar.

As for the mobile, yes that's in my roadmap.

      Thanks a lot.

        No worries, good luck!

September 9, 2019 Released chrome extension that support the web app

At this day, I was able to release the initial version of the Shotmockr chrome extension.

You can download it from the link below:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/shotmockr-design-mockups/elklfjmcadphgcmlfehpnakghohbldne

As you would imagine, the initial release was just simple and it only gave users the ability to capture the visible part of a page and automatically download the screenshot.

That is not how the end product is supposed to work but it was encouraging because I was working on the project and shipping something even though it wasn't perfect.

I was ashamed to put this to the public, so I was the only user.

EDIT: The version as at today (13/10/2019) is different from what is described above. It's functioning right now even with the screenshot editor.

Try it out from the link below:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/shotmockr-design-mockups/elklfjmcadphgcmlfehpnakghohbldne

Just comment below and send me your feedback.

Thank you.

August 20, 2019 Came up with an idea of ShotMockr

Just last week, I was trying to prepare for launch of ChatSilo - my other chrome extension which serve as a mini facebook messenger CRM and I was trying to make beautiful mockup designs out of the screenshots I made.

Trying to look for a service that does it exactly the way I want but later resorted to building a web app that perform the exact function I wanted.

Today, I decide to start executing on the idea and here it is:

ShotMockr would be an app that help non-designers like me to take screenshots & turn images into pretty real-life design mockups.

The journey has just begun.

Want to follow up and be one of the first set of people to know and use the app when it's complete?

Just follow the app page on twitter: https://shotmockr.com

Thanks.

About

I wanted to turn screenshot of my new software to pretty design mockups and I found an app but the developer removed my country from accessing their extension so I resorted to building a web app that serves my purpose.
