SilicaAI
Local-first AI workspace for Mac
I’m a product designer who codes, and I’ve been building SilicaAI as an independent side project.
The idea came from my own workflow. I was using one tool for chat, another for files, another for transcription, another for call notes, and another for local models. It started to feel fragmented.
So I built a free Mac app that brings those workflows into one place: chat, local models, files, transcription, call notes, presentations, image generation, and agents.
The positioning I’m testing is:
“a local-first AI workspace for Mac”
I’m still not sure if that is clear enough, or if I should focus the product around one stronger use case first, like local chat with files or call notes.
Right now it is free, with no paid plans.
I’d love feedback from other builders:
- Is the positioning clear?
- Does the product sound useful or too broad?
- Which use case feels strongest?
- What would you do to get the first serious users?

About
I started SilicaAI because my AI workflow was spread across too many tools: chat, files, transcription, call notes, and local models. I wanted one Mac workspace where AI feels more native, private, and connected.

I don't think the challenge is whether "local-first AI workspace" is clear. It's whether that's the reason someone switches.
Your post lists a lot of capabilities, but the strongest positioning usually comes from identifying the one problem people immediately associate with your product. Features can expand later; that first association is much harder to change.
