To build an MVP for Similarix in 17 days, I followed these steps, using Django and open-source ML models:

Day 1-3: Understanding the need and planning

• Figured out the main features for Similarix: searching images by meaning, finding duplicates, sorting by color, and grouping faces.
• Planned a simple design for users to easily use these features.

Day 4-5: Starting the project

• Set up a Django project, getting the basic structure ready.
• Made simple models and admin pages to manage images.

Day 6-8: Adding ML models

• chose free ML models that can recognize images and work without needing extra services.
• Made these models work with my Django app, connecting them to the image data.

Day 9-11: Creating key features

• Built the feature to search images by their content, not just names or dates.
• Added a way to spot and group identical images to save space and time.

Day 12-13: Making the yser interface and testing

• Worked on a friendly design that lets people easily find and use the main features.
• Started testing to find problems and make sure everything worked well.

Day 14-15: Improving Based on feedback

• Tested with friends, listening to their suggestions to make things better.

Day 16-17: Final touches

• Fixed any last-minute issues and polished the MVP based on feedback.

Using Django and sticking to open-source ML models made this journey efficient. In 17 days, I built a working MVP for Similarix, ready to grow and improve with user feedback.

Official release is set to be on 16 March 🚀

I found it hard to search and sort files in S3 storage because there weren't good tools for it. This made me think about creating a better way to do this. I wanted a tool that could really understand what's inside the files, making it easier to find and organize them. That's how I came up with the idea for Similarix.
