Simple Portfolio
An app for tracking long-term investment portfolios
I finally launched the minimum viable product for Simple Portfolio. It's a simple tool to help long-term passive investors keep track of their ETF portfolio. I have been building it for myself for the past two years. At the end of the previous year, I decided to quit my job as a data scientist (more on that later) and decided to make a product out of that.
But making it work for any ETF investor was way more difficult than I thought. There are so many different ETFs and brokers so I kept struggling with getting reliable market data for all sorts of ETFs and pairing them with brokerage account exports. So one month ago I decided to drastically narrow down the scope: at first only allow to enter trades manually (no imports) and support only two ETF issuers for which I will get data directly from their websites.
Finally, I decided to get rid of all distractions. I shut down all other projects that I was working on and that are not related to investing and personal finances.
This helped me to launch a simple but fully functional version of my product as fast as possible and start showing it to a narrow group of potential users, get feedback, and iteratively improve it. I already showed it to few of my friends who are investing, sent an email to few people from my mailing list from a previous investing project, and talked to few people on Twitter and Reddit and already got some amazing feedback and first few users!

About
I started building Simple Portfolio because my broker accounts do not show me numbers that matter for long term investors and tracking the portfolio in a spreadsheet was time consuming and frustrating.
