Hey everyone,

I’m a somewhat old dude, but a brand new Indie Hacker member.

I’ve been coding for over 50 years, but it wasn’t until 2 years ago that I discovered the world of AI-assisted development. Since then, it’s completely supercharged my workflow: I’ve built over 30 apps in the past 2 years, 8 of which successfully made it all the way to the App Store.

Finding the Spark: Skadoodle 🎨

Skadoodle is the culmination of a long journey of starting, restarting, and hunting for an idea I could truly get obsessed with.

The inspiration is actually incredibly close to my heart. My mom was an artist. While I’m not nearly the artist she was, she passed down a deep love of sketching. In fact, I’ve been doodling since before I could walk.

I built Skadoodle to be a dedicated mobile platform for that exact creative outlet. It packs surprisingly sophisticated drawing tools compared to other casual apps, and wraps them in a hand-drawn social media platform and a daily "subject" contest.

The Ultimate Solo-Dev Challenge: Marketing

Throughout my career, I’ve held all kinds of positions in software development, but my heart was always strictly in the code. Marketing and sales were simply never my thing—and frankly, I was lucky enough to work alongside some brilliant marketing and sales professionals over the decades so I never had to learn it.

But things are different now that I’m an indie hacker. Suddenly, I find myself a student of how to create a viral TikTok video, and how to pitch artists on Instagram to try out my app. It’s an entirely new world for me.

I'm incredibly hopeful that this community will be a place where I can swap notes, learn from those who have cracked the distribution code, and move this passion project forward.

If you've successfully transitioned from a pure engineering background to running your own growth and marketing, I’d love to hear your advice.
