Watch candidates work before you hire

April 8, 2026 We replaced interviews with a simulated "first day at work" — looking for hiring managers to tear it apart

I've been a founder for years, and hiring has always been the thing I'm worst at. I have a 100% success rate at hiring people who interview great and then can't do the job.

And it's been getting worse. Resumes are all AI-generated now, interviews don't actually predict how someone will perform on the job, and take-home tests? ChatGPT solves those in 30 seconds. HackerRank, LeetCode — they were built for a world where AI couldn't code. That world is gone. RIP.

So I built SkillVee (because apparently my coping mechanism for bad hires is building software).

Instead of an interview, candidates get a simulated first day at work. They hop on a voice call with an AI hiring manager, get onboarded to a project, collaborate with coworkers, deliver actual work — all in 30-45 minutes.

The hiring team gets a full picture beyond techincal skills: how they communicate, how they make decisions, how they handle ambiguity, whether they use AI tools effectively. Not just "can they reverse a binary tree" — which, let's be honest, nobody has ever done at an actual job.

It works for any role — engineers, PMs, data scientists, sales, customer success. Not just coding challenges.

Here's what it looks like:

Where I need help:

I'm looking for 5-10 people who are actively hiring (or hire regularly) to be early design partners. That means:

  • You get free access — I'll personally set up simulations for your open roles

  • In exchange, I need honest, brutal feedback — what works, what's confusing, what would make you actually pay for this

If you've ever hired someone and regretted it by lunch on day two — let's talk.

Drop a comment or DM me. Happy to answer any questions about how it works.

About

Hiring is basically expensive gambling. Resumes lie, interviews are theater, and references say "great team player" about literally everyone. We built SkillVee so you can watch candidates perform before you hire them
