June 25, 2025 Wow, didn't expect this response!

Thanks to everyone who's checked out SmartMoney.ninja so far! A few quick updates based on the questions I'm getting:

What makes the "ninja" theme work:

  • People actually stay engaged longer (68% return rate vs. industry avg of ~25%)

  • The progression feels like leveling up in a game, not just paying more

  • "Master Ninja" users genuinely feel accomplished about their financial skills

Most requested features so far:

  1. Mobile app (React Native is on the roadmap)

  2. Shared family budgets (Master Ninja feature)

  3. Investment tracking integration

For anyone trying it out:

  • Use code INDIEHACKER for 50% off your first month of Money Ninja

  • I'm personally responding to all feedback emails at ccatron@sidexlabs.net

One thing I'm curious about: What's the ONE financial feature you wish existed but no app has nailed yet?

Really appreciating the constructive feedback here - this community is gold! 🥷

June 24, 2025 Built SmartMoney.ninja - Financial management with gamified 'ninja' progression levels (seeking feedback)

After seeing friends struggle with debt and boring budgeting apps, I built a financial management app that gamifies the journey from 'Apprentice Ninja' to 'Master Ninja.' Launched 2 weeks ago and looking for honest feedback from the IH community.

The Problem I Solved: Most personal finance apps are either too basic or overwhelming. People need motivation to stick with financial planning, but spreadsheets are boring and complex apps intimidate beginners.

My Solution:

  • Progressive skill levels (Apprentice → Money → Master Ninja)

  • Advanced debt payoff strategies (snowball, avalanche, custom)

  • Clean, encouraging UI that doesn't shame users

  • Premium features that unlock as users level up

Tech Stack:

  • Next.js 14 + TypeScript (familiar territory for me)

  • Supabase for database (RLS policies for security)

  • Clerk for auth (webhooks sync to Supabase)

  • Stripe for subscriptions

  • Deployed on Vercel

Current Stats (2 weeks in):

  • 47 users signed up

  • 12 converted to Money Ninja ($8.99/month)

  • 2 Master Ninja subscribers ($16.99/month)

  • $147 MRR so far

  • 68% of users return within first week

Revenue Model:

  • Freemium with clear value progression

  • Premium features justify the upgrade

  • Annual plans offer 17% discount

What I'm Looking For:

  1. Feedback on the ninja progression concept - gimmicky or motivating?

  2. Pricing thoughts - too high/low for financial tools?

  3. Feature priorities - what would make you upgrade?

  4. Any red flags in my approach?
