I am quite happy that after several side projects which never really made it to public but had a domain already, that this time I did not spend a thought about this right away and went with a nameless project.

The basic setup for the project was going really smooth, I did setup a new repo on github, did add a github action to lint my code, so I don't need to spend time on formatting, connected it to vercel and done. I was really surprised how smooth everything did go, I do get feature-environments from vercel out of the box for each merge request to test everything again before going to "production"! amazing!

I already had a basic UI showing 5 basic sounds that the user could play and stop and change the volume seperately.

Today I did start to work on this project and put some basic ideas on paper. It started with things like "I want to play some sounds" and "each sound should have an icon" and then the list rapidly did grow..

  • Sounds should be lazy loaded (to speed up webpage loading time)
  • Dark mode
  • Manage favorites
  • Save sound combination with volumes to easily replay it
  • Public profile with listening stats
  • Generate a short url for presets (combination of sounds with volume) for sharing with friends
  • Add Micro-animations
  • Find a name for the project
  • User management
  • Monetization

As I'm a software engineer and had already some experience with Next.js I did choose it to start my journey..

About

I'm a full-time coder and I like to listen to some calm sounds while doing so. And yes, there are already tons of services like this but I always wanted to have my own sideproject. :)
