Simple screenshots with desktop pinning

September 20, 2026 Mouse4: simple screenshots without the clutter

I renamed my Windows screenshot utility to Mouse4 and shipped the latest 1.0.12 release.

Mouse4 is built around one small workflow: press a hotkey, drag a region, confirm, and get back to work. The capture is copied to the clipboard and saved locally as a timestamped PNG. When a reference needs to stay visible, Pin to desktop keeps it above other windows.

The useful parts: • Instant region capture • Automatic copy and local saving • Desktop pinning • Mixed-resolution multi-monitor support • Quiet system-tray operation • A Plus feature: double-click empty space in File Explorer to return to the previous folder

It is a Windows Setup installer, not a portable single file. The trial lasts 14 days, then the lifetime license is a one-time $4.99 purchase. No subscription and no account.

I’d especially like feedback on capture speed, pinning, and the experience on mixed-monitor setups.

September 19, 2026 The tiny File Explorer shortcut I kept missing

Some product ideas are tiny enough to sound unimportant — until you use them every day.

One SnipNow Plus feature is a double-click gesture in Windows File Explorer: double-click an empty area of a folder window and SnipNow takes you back to the previous folder.

It is not a replacement for the normal Back button. It is simply a shortcut for the moments when your hand is already in the file area and reaching for the toolbar feels unnecessary.

This is the kind of detail I like building:

• Small enough to stay out of the way

• Easy to discover once you know it exists

• Useful many times a day

• No account, cloud service, or complicated workflow

SnipNow is otherwise focused on fast screenshots: capture a region, copy it, save it locally, and pin it above your desktop when needed.

There is a 14-day Windows trial. The lifetime license is a one-time $4.99 purchase with no subscription.

What is a small shortcut you use constantly that most people do not know about?

September 19, 2026 The three things I want a screenshot tool to do immediately

Most screenshot apps are capable. The problem is that many of them turn a five-second task into another workspace to manage.

For SnipNow, the useful path is simple:

1. Capture a region with a hotkey.

2. Pin the result above your other windows when you need it for reference.

3. Save it locally as a timestamped PNG and copy it to the clipboard automatically.

That last step matters more than it sounds. You can paste the image into a bug report, chat, document, or design review immediately, while still keeping a local file for later.

SnipNow is designed for Windows users with one monitor or several. Mixed-resolution multi-monitor setups are supported, and the app stays quiet in the system tray when you are not using it.

No subscription. No cloud screenshot library. Just a 14-day trial and a one-time $4.99 lifetime license.

September 19, 2026 I built SnipNow because most screenshot tools feel too big

Hi Indie Hackers — I’m building SnipNow, a small Windows screenshot utility for people who want to capture a region and get back to work.

The workflow is deliberately short:

• Press Ctrl+1

• Drag a region

• Confirm

• The image is copied to the clipboard and saved locally as a timestamped PNG

• Pin it above other windows if you need it beside your work

SnipNow supports multiple monitors and mixed resolutions, runs quietly in the system tray, and has no subscription. There is a 14-day trial, and the lifetime license is a one-time $4.99 purchase.

I’m keeping the product small on purpose: no account, no cloud screenshot storage, and no workspace to learn.

Try it here: https://johnwish1590.github.io/SnipNow/

I’d love feedback on the small details that make a screenshot tool feel fast and comfortable.
