Made enough money to pay rent!

I just went full-time on Soapbox Project in September 2020. It was actually a by-product of the pandemic, so I didn't feel like I was yet "ready" to take it on, but I knew I had to commit to it.

Fast forward to December, I finally made enough money to pay rent! (Spoiler: I'm living with friends until I get my own place, so my rent is cheap, but it feels really nice to say.)

I made $400 from sponsors this month for Changeletter, our newsletter that sends free bite-sized climate action plans. (It's the easiest way to fight climate change & I hope to see you there.)

Most of the sponsors came from a gift guide we made of 50 eco-friendly holiday gifts. I followed up with them via an email campaign and asked to meet/suggest collabs. It worked decently well!

Then, today, we launched an event to write letters to people who are currently incarcerated. We got 21 signups today alone & each ticket was roughly 10 bucks. We crossed over $600 bucks!

congrats, that's awesome! I just signed up (although in Firefox there's a form error when Firefox's built-in "enhanced tracking protection" is on — may want to look into that).

And for content, I thought I'd tell you about https://rewiringamerica.org/ (no affiliation), a non-profit that is making the Green New Deal policy game plan. For consumers, this basically means electrifying our homes and vehicles as quickly as possible — heat pumps, electric cars, electric water heats, solar panels, etc and powering them with renewable electricity. This will reduce American energy usage by more than half (!) while (if financed well by the government) saving the average household $1000-$2000/year. Hopefully you can share the electrification message in your project!

Omg thank you!! I just looked into it & although it doesn't appear "solvable", thankfully someone else faced this before & provided guidance on a better error message. Thanks so much!

Very cool that you pointed out rewiring America specifically because I just finished a Q&A with a sustainable investing entrepreneur; I haven't publicized his interview yet but you can be the first to read it: https://www.soapboxproject.org/journal/what-is-sustainable-investing-and-is-it-profitable

And he actually cited Rewiring America as one of his favorite tools to know about! I totally forgot to follow through & click the link but now that I've heard about it twice in a week, I'll take it as a sign to check it out.

      Thanks so much!!

Thanks for the share — it's generous and makes me feel good and that's a really neat article. Really wishing your project success!
