Socialjuice — #1 video first review platform
Collect and share video testimonials
Hi peeps! SocialJuice, our tool to collect and share video testimonials to use as social proof on your website, just launched on ProductHunt, you guys would do me an Immense favor to check it out, and if you like what you see, engage with the page!
Thanks in advance!
Until recently, I hadn't done anything specific to try to boost SEO, (apart from the regular best practices you automatically implement as a front-end dev of course).
As a bootstrapped SaaS founder, SEO is kind of important, as it is free, and sets you up for the long run, instead of focussing on short term campaigns.
I'm not really a fan of paid ads and campaigns, they're pretty hard to do, and even if they work, they're not exactly easy to replicate, as they wear out.
Therefore, I hired a freelancer to write me 10 blog posts, It's not a lot, but I figured, that to go from zero, to 10 pieces of high quality, keyword rich blog post content, should make a noticeable bump in the SEO graph. At least in theory.
I will be posting these blog post every couple of days, and instantly ask google to index them in the URL debugger inside Search Console. I'll update you guys in a couple of weeks!
A bit sassy to ask but, you should probably follow not to miss the update ;)
(I feel like the saas pun made up for asking)

Thank you so much!

Excited to see the progress. How much did you happen to spend for the blogs?

I paid 15$ a blogpost of 1500 words, in an agreement to buy 10 at once, I bought just one at first just to check quality, but I have to say the quality was very good, and the content was keyword rich. I found this guy on Fiverr, and I would really recommend doing this. I could not write a better article myself.

Mind sharing his name? Might want to hop on fiverr and hire him.
-

Sure! His name was @sparko_digital, would be cool if you would mention I recommended him haha.
I would also recommend just doing 1 first, as all subjects are of course different, so if the quality would be not as great as expected, you're not stuck with a lot of these.

ask google to index them in the URL debugger inside Search Console
@sanderb can you please explain more on this? what does it mean? how to do it?
btw, great initiative - I am rooting for you.-

Sure! So Google has a tool called the Google search console, you can find it here: https://search.google.com/search-console/about
There you can add your website and see all kinds of insights in your SEO, see what keywords people use to find you, how many times your links are being showed, etc.
You can also manually add your websites sitemap there, so it gets indexed more quickly than waiting for Google to find a link themselves, and you also have a URL inspector, there you can look for insights on a specific page on your website, if Google has never seen that URL before, you can click on request indexing.I'm not exactly sure how much effect that has on SEO to be honest, I still think backlinks are more important, but still, the sooner Google knows about the page, the sooner the results will come.
Hope this helps!

Very cool. I would recommend sharing in other locations too (Twitter, here on Indie Hackers, Reddit) to get the most out of your blog posts. It takes Google a long time to index and then RANK your articles for a new blog.
-

Interesting! Just to check, so you add a new post, just like this one, with the link? Or should I also write a short post about the blog post? Or post it on the community tab?
-

Yeah, and whenever you have written anything that may help someone with a particular question, you can link to the article in your comment.

Yeah I feel like people aim to do these things with big marketing channels like SEO or paid ads or even say social media organically. But all of them really take many many months of learning and not seeing much back. You have to just really commit for 6 months to a year, executing over and over and over.
Short tests like this just always will basically show a bad, not profitable end result as it's never that easy as if it was then everyone would be doing it.

I totally agree, I'm doing this for the long term, certainly not expecting a huge difference here, the idea was more that, before this I didn't have any SEO content at all, then switching this up and letting Google know this way should be at least measurable, which could be interesting.
-

Yeah fair enough. The other big thing is the backlinks too of course. If you've got loads and your DR/DA is like 70 then 10 blogs could be mega. If it's 0.7 like mine when I got into SEO a year or so back, then blogs don't do much 😂
-
1
Interesting, just looked it up and mine seems to be 48, but I don't really know what changes this or how it calculates this? It seems to be by counting the backlinks and checking their DA, which would make sense, could you please elaborate?
-
1
yeah so it varies based on niche but 48 is pretty solid as a starting point. It's quite hidden but yeah basically more links from high DA sites makes it better. Higher it gets, the more power your blogs have to rank.
As an example with my agency, each month we're aiming to post about a blog a week and roughly 4+ strong back links to the site.
That's a pretty simple basic level. I am in a super competitive space so it's harder for me than you probably though 🙂

This is a great experiment and I'm excited to see the results! I'm curious to see if you notice a difference in your traffic and if you see any long-term benefits from this SEO boost.

Hey there good luck with your SEO strategy! Can't wait to follow your journey 🙏 can you maybe share the link on fiverr for the guy you are recommending so so you can help both IH and your freelancer 😊

Seems like you're in the right direction!
I have a tip for you. Instead of 10 articles, aim for only 3-4 articles but make sure each one is a masterpiece. Quantity does help with SEO, but I do think that in the first phase, you should focus on writing high-quality articles. Then try to build a few backlinks for each one of them and monitor your rankings.Good luck!

Thank you, what would you recommend for builing backlinks, you mean just sharing them on social media? Or really trying to contact news sources and blogs and stuff to mention them?
-
1
If you have the budget for link building, go for it. In case you don't, just try to write VERY good articles. Share them on IH, HN, Reddit, and other channels. If the content is good, people might share it, and in some cases, you can get backlinks from other sites.
Good content can also rank with backlinks, but you'll be more sensitive to competition.

I'm beginning to write initial blog posts for SEO as well. Looking forward to following along :)

I have a site where I’ve published over 700+ articles and the lifecycle of the content is remarkably consistent. You should see some search traffic the first 1-2 weeks and then a dip to nearly nothing. Then 6-12 weeks later, the post is “activated” in Google and is suddenly getting traffic again. Usually this is a bit more than what you saw the first week. You can expect that traffic to sustain itself for years after that.
There are outliers of course, but I’m guessing you will see the same general pattern across your posts.

Have you tried AI-powered text generators to enhance your posts?
-
1
Not really, to be honest, I did use a tool like this but haven't ever posted a post using this.
Apparently, its pretty easy for AI to spot AI generated text, and I've read somewhere Google could limit reach for this kind of content in the future to prevent a massive flood of automated generated content.I would love to learn more about this, however.

SEO takes time to yield consistent results, it's really the long term game that you play when you embark on the SEO boat. But it's very gratify to see the business results of high ranking on SERPS, have patience and consistency, the outcome is worth it.

Presentation of useful content is essential for effective SEO. You can get desired search results and quality leads through blogs.

Right! Looking forward to continuing this journey!

Yay, July 6th, 2022, my birthday, is the day out 2000th user signed up for SocialJuice.
I'm incredibly proud of this number, as well as all the amazing positive feedback I've received from the community.
Full disclosure, I did an AppSumo Select campaign, and a significant portion of this number, a little over half, came from over there.

Launching on AppSumo made sense for SocialJuice. When AppSumo approached me, the product was still pretty rough, and nobody had every heard about it.
The real thing AppSumo brings to the table is not the revenue (as they take the biggest part from it, I'm taking 25% home), It is the exposure.
An average AppSumo Select campaign brings in about 20M brand impressions, as they do actively market the product as well as pitch it to their existing audience of loyal, helpful people.
Even if it was the best product in the world, its not worth that much if no body knows about it, thats where they brought in the initial heavy lifting.
I'm really thankful for the community and the AppSumo team and would highly recommend working with them if your product is in early stage.
Of course, running a video service is not cheap and selling life time deals does not make sense in the long run. The biggest thing in essence is starting out with a large user base that actually cares about the product, I do not need to come up with new feature, I can prioritise them based on demand. It's really a Saas dream come true.
As the product went through a big transition since the initial contact and what it is today, it now makes a lot of sense to subscribe as a monthly customer, but it did also make a lot of sense for people using the rough version in the beginning and providing feedback to be rewarded with a LTD.

The product was usable. Definitely more than what we would call an MVP, but I wouldn't call it a finished product either at this point. It was a decent product at this time, but nobody knew about it. I was blown away they even found me, to this day I have no idea how, I asked them, they said one of the Sumo-lings found me. This is the way they describe their audience.
The terms of the AppSumo deal were pretty nice, but the most valuable thing for me was definitely the brand awareness. Them getting the word out.
They just have an enormous reach. The second most important thing they bring is an active community of tech savvy people, they genuinely want to help and make the product better. (which it needed to be at the time haha)

It took a couple of months, but I'm finally done building the minimum viable product for SocialJuice.io. I worked mostly nights and weekends, and I coded the whole thing in NextJS.
In hindsight, there were a few features I built that probably could've waited until later. (This was in the example milestone but it's so true ... haha, At least, I'm happy it's super relatable.)
But I'm excited to start talking to customers and see what they think about the product so far!

A friend of mine does company catering, and he shares thank you emails from his clients a lot on his socials, he says it's easy content for his and it really help new customers convert.
When thinking about it, we all do want to see social proof first before converting, google maps reviews for restaurants, amazon reviews for products etc.
I got an AHA moment for making it effortless for him to scale the collecting and improving the quality of his testimonials.
When searching online, the idea is already out there (that's always the case however haha), mainly with this product:
https://vocalvideo.com/, but it's expensive and way too much for small businesses.
That's why I started building my own version. It's called SocialJuice. It's easy to use, has amazing UX en is Mobile first, since most customers and end users are almost always mobile first.
