May 2018 Private Beta

We opened our doors to people we didn't handpick. Though we were still picky on whom from the waitlisted people to give access to the app. We onboarded 20 users.

March 1, 2018 First release

We released the first version of the product to our friends within 2 months of working on it. We jumped technologies multiple times in this timeframe - moving from React web, to Java/Android and finally to React Native. The first product was pretty shaky but good enough to communicate our main value proposition. We got 10 of our friends to use it first.

January 1, 2018 New year, New product

After spending some time researching further into our idea, talking to a few friends, reaching out to friends and doing a simple proof of concept with WhatsApp status to broadcast what we can help with, we finally had the specs ready as to what we really wanted to build. Building started in full flow.

October 2017 First idea & cryptocurrencies

The idea of the Socionity came when we were building another product and were exploring the details of crypto currencies - especially Ethereum, Filecoin and Orchid. We were complete beginners at Crypto - so we needed a lot of help getting to speed. However, since this is a new field, the people we knew in our circles weren't able to help us in ways we wanted. So we had to write a bunch of cold emails with our questions to people. We didn't even know if they have the time or motivation to help us. We ended up wasting hours just cold-mailing.
We realised this is a problem. We realised we don't know who can help out and with what.
We thought that's a big gap that needs to be filled. We've been helping a lot of people ourselves. We've seen the equation from both sides to know this is a pressing need. And hence was born Socionity

About

I have been helping out friends with their projects whenever they need help - especially with product design and dev. I realised that there was no way for other people to find me and ask for help and pay me for it.
