Increased the value of SoftwareIdeas.io by 2x!

For the past month, I've been working on a new membership site to help increase the value subscribers get when signing up.

One way I'm doing that is by increasing the breadth of how we help founders. The newsletter helps you come up with your next business idea, and the membership site brings you from idea to product-market fit. Today I'm excited to announce that the website is officially live!

Here's some of the things that I'm hoping will double the value of a softwareideas.io subscription:

1. Partners

The most valuable thing we're doing is partnering with incredible people and products that help bootstrappers create successful products. Here are our first three partners, offering exclusive discounts to subscribers:

  1. Blake Ellison (@blakerson), an analytics veteran who has experience working for both PlayStation and Rakuten, is offering a sizable discount on his amazing book, Analytics For Indies

  2. Gabe Ragland (@Gabe), founder of DivJoy, which has been use to create nearly 10,000 codebases, has partnered up with Software Ideas to offer a huge discount to help founders get started with their next codebase.

  3. And last but not least, Arvid Kahl (@arvidkahl) has partnered with Software Ideas to give a discount on his book, Zero To Sold, exclusively for members.

I'm extremely excited to be starting with these three partners, and I'm hoping to bring on more great people who can help founders go from idea to product-market fit in the coming weeks!

2. The Foundation

Similar to Trends.co, Software Ideas is now going to have a series of exclusive, members-only content called The Foundation. While it's starting off humble with just a single piece of content, this will quickly grow into what I hope is an archive of extremely actionable advice for getting founders to product-market fit.

I have a lot of plans for this content, so stay tuned!

3. Newsletter Archive, self-serve membership settings, etc.

The least interesting of the changes, the members website now allows a fully self-serve experience with a softwareideas membership, including being able to access the email archive (all previous posts), plus do things like cancel or change your membership.

I'm hoping that this brings an even better experience to the members of softwareideas.io, and I'm excited to have this foundation in place!

I signed up to the free month of saas ideas to see what Kevin had cooked up and what I really liked about it is that from the first issue I felt that what Kevin produced had value.

He works his mailing lists like a pro with the newsletters so, IMMO he is an excellent example of a paid newsletter writer who does things right.

Here's to your future success, sir!

Thanks Caine! Although I think you meant free Issue, not free month :)

    Nice!

What marketing channel did you use to grow so big in a short time?

    1. 1

      Thanks!

I talk in-depth about how I validated my idea using channels in the first Foundation video ;)

But the short version is, I tried about 4 channels to see what worked, found the ones where I had some initial traction, and now I'm slowly exploring more!

Wowza! Great stuff mate. Especially the Quarterly membership idea looks amazing.
Btw which email service are you using for your newsletters? And if it's not too much to ask can you tell me what were your reasons for choosing it over other email services out there?

    1. 2

Appreciate it! I'm currently using MailChimp, but I have plans to move away soon. I haven't been happy with it so far.

      1. 1

Oh, okay. It really is hard to pick between so many email services out there.

Great stuff! Can I ask how you're handling the content creation? Do you have a team for it?

    1. 1

Thanks! Right now it's the things that I can talk about - early stage validation, finding traction, etc, but I plan to bring on people much smarter than me in the near future. Ask me again in a couple months and I'll have a better answer!

Congratulations Kevin, and good job on the progress so far! I'll sign up in January (when I'm quitting, taking a 2 month vacation, and starting my own projects), and will definitely put those partnerships to good use! ;)

Thanks Kamal, sounds like you're in for an exciting time in a few months! Definitely looking forward to seeing you around on the new membership site (and by then the community will definitely be established, too!)

Hey, this is actually one of my current projects, to figure this out. I don't have great visibility into who is signing up into the email list, I kinda dropped the ball on it.
