🎉 $8,000 MRR in Four Months!

Software Ideas has just hit $8,000 in monthly recurring revenue!

Getting into the high thousands is a super cool milestone, and it's very cool to be getting close to the magical $10k mark! One thing I've definitely noticed now is that Software Ideas requires less 'hands on' effort to make a sale. I think that's happening for two reasons:

  1. Better product offering. Now that Software Ideas has over 50 opportunities in the archive, I think it's easier for people to buy.

  2. More readers = more word-of-mouth.

Thanks to everyone who has checked out Software Ideas, and a special thanks to the 400+ readers who continue to let me work on this super fun project!

*PS: If you're looking for more details on how I grew Software Ideas, check out this post for an overview!

Is there any way to validate your claims? In past, we have seen far too many people claiming about high revenues but found later on that they are faking it to generate buzz.

I guess this kind of revenue achievements post are only useful if you have a verified by Stripe, baremetrics etc badge.

    1. 2

Yep, you can verify because Software Ideas is an open startup: https://softwareideas.baremetrics.com

Feel free to take a look! :)

Been following very closely Kevin - congrats! I tested the waters last week with a premium "sales for bootstrappers" newsletter. Already at 2 pre-orders, following your process almost exactly!

      That's awesome, congrats!!

Great KC!. is that stripes dashboard ?

I really like how the minimalistic the signup process is. Got me clicking pretty quickly - but that's mostly because I've heard of softwareIdeas here. Then directly the payment confirmation email - and a long 2 minute-wait until the "register"-email arrived. In those 2 minutes I can anxiously click around the non-logged-in part of the website by the way, but you got my cookie that I'll soon be a customer - so from a signup-flow point of view, I'd say I was a bit lost but highly attentive at that point, but I would have been an easy target for messaging for you :)

Thanks for the feedback! I'm actually working on a new website design right now, which will immediately display the free issue once you sign up, so there is no waiting between submitting your email and waiting for it to arrive.

Looking forward to having you on-board! New issue comes out tomorrow, and it has a micro-saas opportunity that I think is pretty cool.

    Amazing, truly amazing.

    Congratulations!

    Wow, congrats Kevin!

Not bad, Kevin. What's your take away?

    1. 1

      Thanks!

So many take aways from this project so far. So much I'm still learning, too. Biggest one - build something that people want and are willing to pay for, and find out if your idea meets that criteria as soon as you possibly can!

      1. 1

How did you come up with something that people want and willing to pay? Was it a pure luck?

Hey Alex, this actually just went live today and probably answers your question in more depth than I can repeat in this comment: https://www.failory.com/interview/softwareideas

I also show a lot of my validation work publicly here: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/my-notion-template-for-validating-ideas-bce4497119

Congrats, just a heads up, I gave my info for a free trial and never received the email, I checked several times the spam folder even, my email is gmail

Thanks, and sorry to hear it didn't send. I'm aware that there's an issue with the free email, I'm actively working on getting it fixed. It can sometimes take up to 30 minutes which is absolutely rediculous.

Here's a direct link if you never got to see it!

Thanks, it looks very nice , congrats

    Congrats, Kevin! 🚀

Tried to get sign up for a free issue just now Kevin, doesn't seem to be working for me.

Congrats on this milestone. Fantastic achievement.

Thanks Eamo, I know there's been an issue with delay on the free issue. Something I'm actively working on by switching to a new email provider and landing page stack!

If you still never got it, here's a direct link to the free issue!

Thanks for sending it onto me directly too Kevin! Appreciate it.

Sure thing, let me know what you think once you have some time to read it!

As a marketer, I've keenly tracked this space of emerging SaaS ideas for while and yours is one of the best newsletters I've seen in a while. The reason I say so:

    1. I'm especially liking it after you have started including the level of complexity to build the business
    2. You explain the risks in a neat manner- product risk and channel risk. The later is less talked about in today's world where most people think "build it and they'll come" which never happens.

That said there are many copy cats emerging because of this newsletter's success.

Ironically, by showing people a product-market-fit for the product "find opportunities and package it as a newsletter for a price", you've invited a lot of competition in your own niche

    1. 1

      who are the competitors?

    2. 1

      Hey Subro!

Glad to hear my sharing in public is valuable to you, and thanks for being a customer! The Risks section of the newsletter is an important piece for me - it gives people clear next steps on how they can run with the idea.

    That’s amazing! Congrats, Kevin! 🎉

      Thanks a bunch Mario!

      Thanks!

I did briefly explore launching as a one-time "list" of ideas, but after talking to customers the newsletter had bigger appeal.
