Turning analog sound to digital while preserving the quality is a difficult task. But if you have an Ethernet-connected HiFi system (eg. Linn DSM) ,the most vital pieces are already there.

What's left is catching the resulting stream of bits and saving it in a proper format. That's basically what Songcorder does.
