Getting into Harvard’s LLX program. Those kind of resources and opportunities in the early days of a startup are indispensable, at least they have been for us.

We originally started with 4 co-founders. After a few months, 2 of them weren’t cutting it as founders. We went through the tricky process of undoing their foundership, buying back their stock, all of that. Both of them wanted to stay on as employees, so we had to navigate that territory as well. It all worked out, but at the time we were bootstrapping, scared, and thought the whole thing was going to implode.

My co-founder and I used to work at Khan Academy and saw the amazing impact online learning resources can have for learners around the world. But we also saw the time lost by people trying to find and organise the right learning content on the web, and a lack of tools to support engaging and interacting with online learning materials.
