SparkLoop
Add a referral program to your newsletter
2020 has been a hell of a ride for SparkLoop
We went from practically unknown in January to being the default, no-brainer newsletter referral tool for the largest newsletters in the world, including James Clear, Tim Ferriss, Shane Parrish, FrontOfficeSports, David Sinclair and many many more.
In this post I share everything we've done, including the good, the bad and the ugly. Enjoy.
Reactions is our latest tool drop to help newsletter creators grow and understand their audience better.
@manuel_frigerio and I noticed that a lot of newsletter creators are desperate to interact with and understand your newsletter subscribers better - but asking people to fill out a form/reply to emails just doesn't result in a lot of people taking part.
That's why we built Reactions. It's super easy to add a one-click poll to your newsletter.
Ask your subscribers a question, and let them answer by clicking on an emoji (or multiple-choice text answer).
When someone reacts, they're taken to your custom thank-you page. Where you can display the results of the poll, ask them for more detailed feedback, or nudge them to share your newsletter on social media.
We're seeing people using this for running NPS surveys, getting feedback to improve their newsletter quality, and running polls to better understand their readers.
Check it out on Product Hunt today... and - if you have any questions or suggestions - please let us know!

Today we're excited to announce that ConvertKit has become an investor in SparkLoop.
We've also started a new partnership together: All of ConvertKit's Creator Pro customers will have free access to SparkLoop too!
This is a real win-win-win situation...
- ConvertKit can improve the value of their "pro" offering with access to the best email referral tool on the market
- ConvertKit creators get significantly cheaper access to SparkLoop, so they can grow their audiences faster and even more affordably
- We at SparkLoop have the opportunity to work closely with and learn from the amazing ConvertKit team, and don't have to worry about 'marketing' to ConvertKit's customers anymore
We're really excited about working with ConvertKit long term to help creators reach their goals. And we're very grateful to them for making the whole partnership and investment process so easy.

Excellent news, congratulations! Would you be open to explaining your partnership with ConvertKit a bit more? In your headline you mentioned they invested, did they purchase an equity stake in sparkloop?
Is ConvertKit paying you for every new subscriber they send to SparkLoop? On their Creator Pro page, they say users get a free SparkLoop account, but above you mentioned users will get cheaper access to SparkLoop.
Our business model, will be heavily dependant on similar business partnerships, so any additional insights/feedback you could provide on how the deal came together or how it is structured would be very beneficial.
Thank you!!

Thanks!
Happy to answer some questions where I can...
In your headline you mentioned they invested, did they purchase an equity stake in sparkloop?
Yes!
Is ConvertKit paying you for every new subscriber they send to SparkLoop?
Not exactly, it's a bit more complicated than that but in the same general direction (without going into specifics).
On their Creator Pro page, they say users get a free SparkLoop account, but above you mentioned users will get cheaper access to SparkLoop.
ConvertKit users who upgrade to their "pro" plan will get a free SparkLoop account. So it's a lot cheaper than just paying for SparkLoop directly.
any additional insights/feedback you could provide on how the deal came together or how it is structured would be very beneficial.
I'm going to record a podcast episode next week where I walk through the deal in detail.
If you have any specific questions, shoot me an email and I'll try and answer them on the podcast :)

Today's the big day...
After spending months helping hundreds of newsletter creators to grow referrals for millions of subscribers in private access, we're opening up self-serve access to SparkLoop!
And we're on Product Hunt.
AND we're doing a one-off launch discount today of 20% FOR LIFE!
We'll report back later about how the launch went and why taking so long to open up self-serve access was probably the best move we've ever made.
For now though, please check us out and "show the love" on Product Hunt 🙏

Today we crossed $10 in all-time revenues!
What's even more remarkable is that SparkLoop is still in "pre- launch" phase. I'm saying it to prove the point that you don't need to launch products to start generating revenues.
Growth in these first ~6 months has been driven mostly by sales (@louisswiss) and word-of-mouth of happy customers.
Next step is to launch SparkLoop ot the general public and transition to more scalable acquisition strategies.

This is awesome! I love the hustle, also a smart move to partner up with a co-founder who is clearly skilled with sales.

having Louis as business partner definitely helps.

Congratulations! One question though - is it $10K or $10? 🙂 It’s good either way 👍🏻
-

or maybe $10M? :)
It's $10K

Here at SparkLoop, we work with a lot of newsletters who are trying to find affordable, effective ways to grow their subscriber base.
One of those ways that seems to work really well is "cross-promotion" - finding a newsletter with a similar audience to yours, and giving each other a shoutout in your respective emails.
The trouble is, it can take ages to keep looking for newsletters that are a good fit, and then convincing them to cross-promote with you.
That's why we created Match. It's a completely free service that 'matches' you with a similar newsletter up to 4x per month for cross-promotion.
This is another step towards our goal of making it really easy to grow your newsletter audience quickly and affordably.
Another small (but significant) step of our journey with SparkLoop: we've hit 500 sign-ups in our email list.
Of these, 101 people have scheduled a call with us (the number is actually higher but we started tracking this metric a couple of months in).
That means, on average, we get on a call with 20% of the people who sign up on our email list.

Just a short update, but yesterday we had our first ever SparkLoop customer ask us for an annual plan (and sign up to it).
We gave the standard '12 months for the price of 10' discount.
Annual plans aren't something we've pushed heavily (or even offered) so far - both myself and my cofounder Manuel are lucky enough to run other businesses, and can focus on building SparkLoop's MRR instead of prioritising cash flow.
But having someone request an annual plan - especially in these cash-short times of COVID-19 - is a really positive indicator that we're creating real value for people 💪

After launching our free proof tool a few weeks ago for ConvertKit, lots of newsletter creators reached out to us asking for MailChimp support too.
So we're excited to announce that Proof now also works with MailChimp - and we decided to celebrate by launching on Product Hunt 🎉
It would mean a lot to us if you checked it out, or showed our Product Hunt launch some love...

Today we launched a new, free tool to help newsletter creators convert more visitors into subscribers...
You can use it to increase trust and easily display subscriber metrics anywhere on your website...
✅ use it as social proof
✅ quick, no-code install
✅ auto-updates (no more updating by hand)
For now it only works if your newsletter uses ConvertKit, but more ESPs should be coming soon...
Why build this?
This is our first attempt at 'product marketing'. We noticed that displaying subscriber metrics on a newsletter landing page is a really useful way of increasing conversion rates, but many newsletter creators don't do it because it's a pain to have to update the numbers manually.
By giving away this useful tool for free, we hope that it makes it easier for us to identify newsletter creators who would really benefit from the 'main' SparkLoop product, so we can start a conversation with them about trying it out.

Looking good! Here: https://tomaslau.com/newsletter/
However, can't figure out how to use it within a paragraph :/
-
1
Oh dear! That is our fault. The default code snippet to insert looks like this...
<div data-sl-proof></div>If you want to include it inside of a paragraph, it should work if you just copy and paste...
<span data-sl-proof></span>Inside of the paragraph instead.
Let me know if you need any help with that!
-
1
@louisswiss now it's better. One more thing, could you set "display:inline;"? Thank you!
-
1
Hey Tomas, the display should be inline automatically. Are you having problems with that?
-
1
@louisswiss weird, it renders as inline-block here: https://tomaslau.com/newsletter/

How's the launch of this going so far?
-
2
The 'real' SparkLoop product is going really well.
This free version hasn't seen the uptake we'd hoped for (yet), but it's early days and we haven't told many people about it yet. It's ConvertKit only (for now), which means it can't be used by a lot of newsletter creators who would love to use it but aren't using ConvertKit to send their emails.
-
-
1
Would love to see this paired up with Substack!
-
1
we too! unfortunately it won't be possible until they have a public API...
-
-
1
hey @louisswiss just found out its only on ConvertKit -- would you guys have it on mailchimp soon?
-

Great idea!!

Saw this on the NLG group on telegram, I think you posted it. but, this is really cool, can't wait to check it out!
