Spelling Bee Times

Traffic has been steadily growing for the past eighteen months, and with one day to go, I can proudly say that we are going to hit over 160,000 views this month from over 52,000 unique visitors. Consistent posting has been the key to making this happen.

A year after launching, the site now gets over 20,000 page views a month. This has been mostly achieved through SEO. I've done a few things that helped with the SEO, such as creating pages for each of the popular search terms. After the homepage, the most popular pages each month are the long tail content pages. Over time, I've seen page rankings gradually increasing.

I worked on it for about three weeks. It's a wordpress site, which within one minute of the latest puzzle posting online, posts the solution to a Wordpress site, creates a video and uploads it to Youtube, and then sends me an email to let me know if t finished. Most importantly, when I play the puzzle each day, I have the answers available if I get stuck or give up.

After learning about the game "Spelling Bee" on the New York Times website, I became slowly obsessed with playing it each day. But somedays, the game took a little too long to complete. So, I wanted the ability to find the solution right away.

A quick google search showed me that while there were a few sites already doing this, there were only a handful, and I thought I could do a better job than at least some of them. Since I had been looking for a small project to keep my programming skills sharp and to try a few new things, I thought this would be a great way to do so.
