Turn receipts into spending insights in seconds
Quick update: SpendWise is now live on Google Play.
The launch process took longer than expected, especially with Google Play production access, internal testing, and a billing issue that only appeared once the app was live.
The main positioning has also become clearer through feedback:
Most receipt apps help you store receipts. SpendWise helps you understand where your money goes.
That is the direction I’m leaning into now — spending awareness rather than receipt storage or strict budgeting.

For years I tried different ways to keep track of spending, but most budgeting apps felt like work. They wanted me to connect bank accounts, set budgets, categorise transactions, and constantly monitor my spending.
I realised I wasn't looking for another budgeting system. I simply wanted to understand where my money was going.
SpendWise exists to make that easy.
The idea is simple: scan a receipt, let the app do the work, and build awareness of spending habits over time. No spreadsheets, no budgeting pressure, and no guilt when you buy something you enjoy.
As someone who has spent a career in technology, I wanted to build a tool that reduced financial stress rather than adding to it. SpendWise focuses on awareness instead of restriction, helping people make informed decisions without feeling judged by another finance app.
If users finish a month with a clearer understanding of their spending than they had at the start, then SpendWise has done its job.

SplitWise is a very popular "expense-splitting" tool which also has a similar feature I believe.

That's a fair question.Splitwise is excellent for sharing and settling expenses between people. SpendWise is solving a different problem.
I built SpendWise for people who want a simple way to understand their spending habits without budgeting, bank account connections, or manually tracking transactions.
The focus is less on managing shared expenses and more on building awareness of where money is going over time through receipts and purchase history.
I'm still learning what resonates most with users, but the "awareness rather than budgeting" approach is the direction I'm exploring.

This makes sense, and I agree with you. Users would need to see clear value and results as a result of going through the motions of scanning a receipt every time they receive one.

The “awareness, not budgeting” angle is the strongest part here.
I’d be careful that SpendWise does not get read as another receipt scanner or expense tracker. The emotional difference is that it helps people understand spending without turning it into guilt, restriction, or admin work.
That is probably the wedge worth protecting.

I think you've captured the distinction better than I did.
There are already plenty of receipt scanners and expense trackers. What I'm trying to build is something that helps people understand their spending without adding more admin work or making them feel judged by another budgeting app.
The goal isn't to tell people what they should spend. It's to give them a clearer picture of what they are spending, and let them decide what to do with that information.
I'll definitely keep that positioning in mind as the product evolves. Thanks for the insight.
