Splittaxpens

After a week full focus on a week planning app now I have time to develop more features for the SplittaExpens app. In this big release the SplittaExpens got:

• new React 18 which gives better rendering performance, event it is fast now so it will be faster.
• shopping list function is introduced. This function can be found in sessions. This function helps to plan things to buy for an event.

The app is used by a group frequently and it helps the group a few hours every week to manage expenses.

There is one case in the last week that proves that the app is very powerful and flexibility to adapt with complex scenarios. The case was that the group had two parties, one on friday and the other on saturday and on friday one family has only one member joint and on saturday another family has only one member.

The function to specify expenses by receipt mode is found very helpful by users so they can insert easily what items they bought for the group.

today I launched a new feature which is group concept for the splittaexpens app. This feature is similar group concept on social network which is a group of users. The groups are possible to choose when creating sessions.

The group is created to facilitate when a session is created users need to choose their friends from contacts. This will help reducing repetitive steps

after a while launching the product to several users and tried to inform the product on several sites for feedback now I have time to make a landing page properly.

today the app got a few new users which are in the same group with me. So they started trying the app, we will use this app to replace the traditional excel for calculating costs every time we gather. So far the app seems to work but users had some troubles in the beginning.

some problems I observed that login with google does not work when the app is sent via fb messenger. This seems to be difficult to fix. One user seems to be very hesitated to understand the app. However the rest seem no problems with the app.

today, I developed several new features which improve the uses of the app

• summary report will include information of total users and sum so users can verify the report.
• view expenses by who pays and who share. This will help users when they want to verify expenses.
• expenses now support receipt mode which helps users to gather multiple expenses in the same receipt or in the same day, for better organizing. They can still use standard mode which requires final total amount of every expense only

to day I bought a domain for the app which is https://splittaxpens.app. At this moment I will need to find some users to test the app. I dont have any ideas how to to that at this moment. I have plan to develop native apps also. I was thinking of react-native or flutter

I deployed the first version to firebase hosting. I used firebase for authentication. I started with email magic link authentication. This seems to be smooth to start with. But soon I realised the inconvenience when users need to close the current tab manually.
Then I added support for login via google mail

The first version supports add friends for easier to select when declaring expenses.

I started a very first version with React and tailwind and showed to my wife how I thought. My wife usually use excel before for calculating the shared costs for every party we had so she knew what functions she needed.

My plan was to develop a web app first since it is my field so I could make it fast.

I completed the first UI version of this PoC which used mocked data to visualize interactions in the web app.

I sat with my wife and tested the web app via our phones. I observed how she used the app to adjust experiences accordingly.

So far the core business is to add expense and see summary seems to work fine
