Give Your Website A Voice
We just updated our branding to feel a bit more modern.
We thought our previous logo looked like a dunce cap.
So now we have a modern version of what a spotlight could look like.

We've got a Spotlight on a few different websites right now!
The first company is just using a Text Spotlight which is basically just a headline with a call to action next to it. Click the link to check it out! miakomo.com
Here is an example of an Audio Spotlight on Rocket Note. Here's the link: getrocketnote.com
So far, our customers are happy with what's happening and they are watching the click rate closely.
Idea validation got a lot of conversations going and we are now getting a good amount of people who are willing to pay for Spotlight.
And this is before the product is even out. People really like it so far and if it increases conversion, then they are 100% in.
We don't have billing built out yet in the app so we are just taking payments however they choose. But we are now just a day or two away from launching and getting people to go through the whole process.

We had several more days until we were going to have the web app up and running. We decided it'd be a good idea to start trying to sell it right now to get some good product feedback.
We knew the first time we did idea validation it wasn't as intense as it should have been. So this time around, we're collecting cash. If someone actually starts paying for this, it will be a great indicator of what customers think.
We are still in the process but people are starting to committ. We have a lot of work to go but good things are happening right now. The web app is going to be done by the end of the week and then we'll be able to really get started.

The full product wasn't done but we did have the widget complete just 5 days later. This meant we could put it in people's websites manually.
We started by putting it in getrocketnote.com and a couple of others. (Click the link to see it!)
It looked and felt great! We were super excited! And my co-founder managed to build it in just 4 days or so. He's a champ!
Everything is functioning perfectly right now and we are on our way to getting the business app out.

While dev was working on the backend, I was working on designing the business app. We needed a place for people to signup and create/manage their spotlights. It was going to be like 10 pages or so, so not too bad.
We designed it mobile-first and that helped keep things simple. We also did our best to work on-boarding into the product cause we know that's pretty difficult to build.
We kept the people we've been talking to updated with what we were doing and they really liked the design. It was simple and looked pretty intuitive. We will see if that holds true.
Once the design was done, the backend was also finished. It was perfect timing. In total, we built the backend and designed the product in just 5 days. We were hauling!

We created what a Spotlight would look like and started showing people. Most of them said that the first one we sent out was a little too big.
We made some iterations and got it down to be just two lines of text with a play button. It was a great size and customers liked it. We decided we are going to call the text within the spotlight the "headline."
It was a super simple design and easy to do. People liked it. If we needed to make any changes we totally could quickly.

We've got the idea. And now we'd like to spend all our time and attention validating it. However, we're in a tight spot because of our short runway. We need to start building something while we start validating.
We know that's obviously not what you're supposed to do, but our runway is too short. So dev will start on the backend while I go out and speak to a bunch of people about the product.
Update:
We got a lot of good feedback. People were saying they would pay $100+ /mo depending on what we had. They thought it would be really cool to have the founder of the company essentially speak to each person who hit the site.
Almost everybody we talked to said they would like to have this on their own website. We thought that was a good sign.
