August 8, 2026 I built German exam prep because people who speak the language still fail the exam

Hi, I'm Uday. I run Sprachpass (sprachpass.com).

Here is the thing I kept seeing. Someone learns German for a year, speaks it fine, then fails the Goethe A1 or B1 exam. Not because their German is bad. Because the exam is its own problem: fixed question types, a clock on every part, and listening audio that plays once. Apps teach German. Nobody rehearses the exam.

So Sprachpass does only that.

- Practice runs are ten questions with no clock, and after every answer you see the correct one and why it is correct.

- The mock exam is 35 tasks in exam order with real timing, and results come only at the end, like the real day.

- Writing and speaking are graded against the exam criteria, scored twice and independently.

- The insights page shows each skill against the 60% the exam needs, so you know which part is costing you marks.

Free every day: 10 listening, 10 reading, 2 writing, 2 speaking questions. Every account gets one full mock exam. You can answer your first questions without creating an account, and that is the decision I would defend hardest. People want to see the questions before they trust you with their email.

Where it is now: A1, A2 and B1 are live, public since June, paying learners since July. Most of them are in India and Pakistan, preparing for study, Ausbildung or work in Germany.

What I am still working out is that the hard part is not the software, it is the question bank. Every question has to match the real exam standard or the whole promise falls apart, so writing and reviewing questions takes most of my week.

If you have built anything in exam prep or language learning, I would like to hear how you handled content quality at scale.
