March 1, 2022 Launch of Multi-Activity Challenges

Through user feedback and data analytics I found out that people are finding it difficult to choose just a single challenge. Teams started to combine challenges together so they can engage more people in the team.

To support this we launched a new type of Multi-Activity challenge. This means you can combine multiple activities like push-ups, squats, or crunches into a single challenge and people can choose which way will they contribute.

January 10, 2022 Launch of Spurr Beta

While ready at the start of December 2021, the approval process by Slack was taking weeks at this point so I decided to launch Spurr without the approval. The response was mainly positive from my networks but no installations, just a few landing page visits.

The next objective: Getting approved by Slack.

November 2021 Going part-time

During summer 2021 I decided to move to a part-time working arrangement and dedicate 2-3 days a week to develop Spurr into a production-ready app. It had to be completely redesigned and rewritten.

Along with free trier, I wanted to have paid tier from day one be to able to test if people would also pay for such service.

May 2020 Spurr Alpha

To automate the boring work of maintaining everyone's pushups in a spreadsheet, my colleague (and co-founder now) and I decided to automate it via the Slack app bot. We added it to our company's Slack and used it internally to run many different challenges, always in a cooperative mode.

April 2020 Idea Inception

After the first few months of the COVID pandemic, the Zoom fatigue started to hit. That's when I started to explore ways how to engage with my team remotely and asynchronously. And the idea behind Spurr – to start a push-up challenge with a common goal – was first I decided to try.

It started as a spreadsheet.
