June 12, 2019 Mobile mania

So being a C# dev, it was obligatory that I build a mobile app in Xamarin. I tried. I failed. I really tried. I wanted it to work. React Native was so cool before the shine faded and I was left building 90% of my app in native code anyway with dog performance. Xamarin is free now; it's got MS devs working on it for shit's sake! Why is it so terrible?!?!

So Flutter. 3 days to deployed on my phone including learning Dart. I think I may be blinded by the shineyness.

Gonna go ahead and hit myself up with an Atlas so's I can get me a developer account for the Google and fruit vendor. This could take a while. Sideload anyone? wink

May 9, 2019 Public website

Hey hey. In a way the launching of a marketing website is a rite of passage for any product that takes it from hobby to pro. I even set up GA to wait in anticipation of all the millions of people just waiting to discover Squidy as soon as I hit deploy :P

April 2019 Mobx

Well, Squidy started as a playground for experimental tech, so why not play with a new lib, mobx. Hot damn! I am in love with mobx! Steep learning curve, but shit, the results speak volumes. Performance++

Added in wallet types which pave the way for credit cards

March 1, 2019 MVP Time

Time to get it up on the big wide web. Deployed to AWS alongside my other projects. Finally free from Excel... kinda. Still working out calculation issues. If nothing else, this project has taught me the value of refactoring. I mean, I've been refactoring for years, but damn if it's not easier to copy/paste code than to extract it into a shared method :(

January 1, 2019 Time for Excel to retire

After managing my budget for 2 years in Excel, I was sick of the work involved in updating categories & reconciling to my bank account. Dropbox also sucks for sharing. Stated building SquidQuota as a playground for other tech ideas and to finally ditch Excel

About

Excel wasn't doing it for me in terms of budgeting, so I built my own app. Then it became pretty good, IMHO, so I thought I should share it with the world :)
