SSHVerify

Collect and verify SSH keys through a simple API

May 22, 2026 I built an API that lets users prove SSH key ownership with one command

I just launched SSHVerify: an API to collect and verify SSH public keys through a real SSH connection.

The idea is simple: your app creates a verification session, the user runs one SSH command, and SSHVerify returns the public key that was used. This can be used through the API or via webhooks.

It can be useful when you need users to prove ownership of an SSH key, provide their public key to an app, or when you want to automate access flows like granting someone access to a server after verification.

One of the reasons I started building this was that getting the public key is not always as easy as asking someone to copy-paste it, especially with hardware-backed SSH keys like TPM, Apple T2, or Secure Enclave keys.

I also created whatismysshkey.com as a simple demo of what the API can do. It lets you see which SSH public key your machine actually uses when connecting over SSH.

This is my first bigger side project that I’ve fully finished as a SaaS, including the website, app, docs, auth, billing, and subscriptions.

Would love for you to check it out:
